UTAH Z3 JBs Reports Fourth-Quarter Loss JBs Restaurants Inc says it has lost $24 million or 49 cents a share for its fiscal fourth quarter In addition the Salt Lake City -based restaurant chain lost $23 million or 48 cents per share for the full year includmg a provision for property dispositions These results compare with a net loss of $17 million or 37 cents per share for the same quarter last year and a net loss of $771000 or 17 cents per share for the prior year Revenues were also down for the fourth quarter Officials attributed that to fewer restaurants open during the periods since many were sold in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 1992 JBs has restaurant operations in nine Western states It operates 97 and franchises 15 JBs family-style restaurants and it operates six franchised HomeTown Buffet restaurants First Security ATMs To Join Star System First Security Corp is expanding 386 automatic-teller machines to be part of the Star System the regions largest electronic-funds transfer network First Security customers will be able to draw funds and conduct other banking business on Star System machines in eight Western states With the addition of First Security the Star System will be on nearly 400 automatic teller machines in Utah Dynatronics Laser Corp Salt Lake City reports that its quarterly sales are down 66 compared with the first quarter of the prior year Net income for the quarter equaled $336802 compared with $10167 a year ago Laser Corp Sait Lake City reports third-quarter revenues of $2799510 compared with $1299671 for the same period a year ago The company experienced a net loss for the quarter of $317289 or 47 cents per share as compared to a net loss of $254288 38 cents per share for the 1992 period Officials of the laser company which primarily manufactures equipment for the medical industry hopes to experience rapid growth in revenues and profits from its medical-products subsidiary ProMed Inc Tel America based in Salt Lake City reports a 103 increase in quarterly sales over the same period a year ago The company also says its revenue for the quarter is up 4 over last years comparable quarter Miller Signs On With Paramount IT Network Bv Harold Schindler THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE Larry H Miller Utah businessman and sports mogul Monday signed an agreement making his independent television station KJZZ (Ch 14) an affiliate of the newly created Paramount Television Network Paramount Communications Inc three weeks ago announced its intention to launch a fifth television network in January 1995 with Chris-Craft Industries Inc which owns broadcast properties nationwide The deal with Mr Miller was agreed upon in principle during the weekend and finalized Monday when the station owner signed the three-year pact in Hawaii He and executives of his large Intermountain business empire are attending the annual Larry H Miller managers retreat Paramount w ill provide its affiliates the lat est science-fiction series Star Trek: Voyager sequel to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and its predecessor Star Trek: The Next Generation The deal allows KJZZ to pre-empt network programs for its own productions Utah Jazz basketball Golden Eagles hockey and Utah State University sports broadcasts with the provision that network commercials be made good in other programs during a similar time period According to the agreement in the first year 1995 Paramount will provide two hours of prime-time programming two nights a week Monday through Friday and two hours (noon-2 pm) on Saturdays and Sundays One of those prime-time hours during the week will include the Star Trek: Voyager episode In the second year 1996 the agreement calls for Paramount to provide an additional hour of programming daily during fringe time 3-5 pm Monday through Friday Then in 1997 the contracts third and final year Paramount will provide affiliates a third two-hour night of prime-time viewing At the expiration of the contract Mr Miller has the option of extending the pact or ending it In either case KJZZ will continue to receive Star Trek: Voyager series if the station desires it From January 1998 on Paramount plans to expand its scheduling to five nights a week plus a late night broadcast from 11 pm to midnight Under the terms of the agreement KJZZ must identify itself as a Paramount Television Network affiliate starting in September Tohn Keahey THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE The Salt Lake Airport Authority and Delta Air Lines calling a Department of Transportation decision earlier this month to deny a Salt Lake City-to-London air route incomprehensible want the federal agency to reverse itself The two protesters on Monday formally petitioned DOT to reverse its Nov 5 order giving direct London routes to American Airlines through Nashville Tenn and Raleigh-Durham NC Delta which operates its third largest of seven domestic hubs out of Salt Lake City International Airport noted that the Intermountain West is the largest US
