M. OSGOOD, Superintendent. Aug 241, 1873-dm. Lontsdai sa IsletitNtlte for the Deaf asNd Dnasb. BATON RoetoE, July 1-7l3.

To the Police Juries, the MUnhicipal Asthorities and FRieds of the Dcqaf and Dumb in IAuisiaue: The Trustees of the La. Institution for the of the Deaf and Dumth, call your attet.tion to this unfortunate chass. and the provision made for them by the State in this Institution. All the Deaf between the ages of eight and twenty-five, of umlnd physical and mental constitutious, will le admitted and provided with instruction, board, lodging, medicine and muedical attendance at the expense of the Institution; and all those in such indigent circumstances as shall appear by a certificate of any member of the police jury of the parish, or mayor of the city, where they reside, to render such aid necessary, will also ib furnished with clothing and traveling expenses to the Institution. The Institution also affords a mecihanical department in whichid instruction is given in sucb trades as may lbe aest suited to render the pupils self-sustaining citizens.

The education of the ldeaf is of peculiar importance to them and to the State; but from wanlt of inlformation, iultigence or other reasons on the part of lparents, ites than half in the State avail thcmselves of the privileges adforded. This is all wrong; hence the Trustees earnestly call the attention of all proelr authorities to the duty of seeing that all the deaf in their respective parishes or cities, are infonnedl of the privileges providel, and that in cases of indigent circumstances, means be providedl for couvee ing such to this Institution. Proper provision will Ie made for both white and celored. In case of any deaf known at this Institution to Ib in )our city or parish, the names are aIppendtd to this letter. Should you know or learn of others, their address is earnestly desiredl.
