SD Iagt- I DXCDT1F Thursday Morning, July 29, 1982 Demons Are Easy to Kill When You Know echnique good shot. You'll note that the demons, particularly the armed ones, move and fire in a rhythm. Watch for the pattern. After a few seconds, you should be able to judge when it is safe to duck under the demons. Get a Tracer Shot Rounds four and eight give you the tracer shot.

You can alter the flight path of a tracer shot by moving your base as the shot goes upward. The ascending shot will move in the same direction as the shifting base. To use tracer shots effectively, fire a missile while stationed either left or right of your target. Then move your ship under the demon. The missile will mimic your actions.

Rounds nine and 10 are played with a partner. Control of the laser bases shifts every four seconds. The change in command is signaled by a change in the bunker's color. Each player uses a separate joystick and maintains his own point tally, but game lives are used and lost together. If the laser base is destroyed under your partners command, you will be awarded 500 points.

There is a devious way to collect this bonus. Simply place the laser base in jeopardy just before control is transferred. Mentally count the seconds you maintain control of the bunker. Just before the base changes color, move it under a descending salvo. By the time your partner gets a chance to react, it will be too late! in round five.

Wave five demons split when you hit them, and the mini-demons dive at your base. The diving mini-demons are a lucrative source of points. The easiest way to annihilate them is to stand still and fire repeatedly. If they consistently elude your shots, move left or right. The diving demons will eventually disappear off the bottom edge of the screen.

The bomb-dropping demon will split just like the passive demons. Since it will drop fewer bombs after it is split, shoot the bomb-laden demon first. Only one of the halves will continue ejecting deadly shells. Then hone in on the passive demons. Wait until the passive demons are out of the way before you finish off the bomb-dropping demon.

If you dont wait, a complete bomb-laden demon will materialize the moment you shoot the bomb-dropping half. During waves seven and eight, laser-wielding demons reappear. Like their cousins in the previous two waves, these creatures will divide when hit. Once again, knock the punch out of the armed demon by shooting him first. Only one of the resulting mini-demous will shoot at you.

Now go to work on the unarmed demons. In later stages of the game, the demons sense of your position becomes more acute. Their bombs will track you. Instead of falling vertically, they will descend at an angle toward your bunker. Attacking the most aggressive demon is still a good opening strategy.

The trick is getting underneath him for a By Michael Blanchet Demon Attack, Imagics most successful home video offering, pits the player against a fleet of hovering demons. The twist is that each progressive demon wave uses a different attack strategy. In each of the 10 waves, players are granted three bunkers, or game lives. Each time the player destroys a wave of demons (there are eight demons in each wave), a bonus bunker is added to the players reserve, until a maximum of six is reached. A joystick controller is used to move your fighter either left or right, out of the path of enemy missiles.

Your retaliatory missiles are launched by a touch of the red button. Each wave of Demons will employ a different attack strategy. Your counter-attack will remain relatively unchanged, with the exception of a few tactics Ill discuss later. Although you will face a total of eight demons per round, only three will appear on the screen at one time. And only one of these three will strafe the playfield.

In the first two rounds, the bombs fall in an almost true vertical path and are easily dodged. The laser blasts of wave three and four demons are a little trickier. These blasts travel parallel to one another. Any area between the deadly rays is dangerous to the well being of your ship. Dive at the Base The first real test of defensive maneuvering comes To use tracer shots effective- I ascending shot will move in ly, fire a missile, then move the same direction as the your ship under the demon.

Jekyll-and-Hyde Syndrome Cured Something New Available On Home Video Market By Michael Blanchet Word Zapper and Sneak and Peek, two new home video games, are aimed at the as yet untapped kiddie market. Word Zapper combines space adventure with spelling practice. At the beginning of each round, a word appears at the bottom of the screen. After it vanishes, the players mission is to reconstruct it by blasting the appropriate letters as they scroll across the top of the screen.

Sneak and Peek is a video version of hide and seek. The scene is a mansion and its spacious lawn. As players plod through each room, a different display appears on the screen. A brisk musical score me to take him outside, she recalls. For two hours they raced up and down a deserted country road, while he laughed and cried intermittently.

"I dont know whats wrong with me," he kept saying. I cant stop." Michele curried him to bed. Pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. "There was no doubt that the afternoons candy binge had somehow brought on a violent chemical reaction. Michele says.

I was equally convinced that his problems could be linked to both the time of the year and the foods he ate. Michele kept a tighter rein on Scott's diet, avoiding sugar-laden and additive-rich products. He became a bit more like his old self. Scott calmed down in the fall months. In February, some of the old problems resurfaced.

Michele knew it was only a matter of time before the Jekyll-to-Hyde process started again. Describes Syndrome Michele attended a meeting of the Massachusetts Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. The guest speaker, pediatrician Dr. William Cook, described the allergic-tension-fatigue syndrome: Youngsters with this problem may be hyperactive, easily fatigued and irritable, or easily depressed. Many experience insomnia, muscle aches, night sweats and nightmares.

A high percentage have frequent upper-respiratory congestion as well as dark circles or bags under their eyes. Aggression and learning problems are common symptoms. Michele said to the woman next to her, "Hes describing my son! One thing triggers another, Dr. By Stanley L. Englebardt (Special from Readers Digest) Six-year-old Scott Tamaren had looked forward to first grade.

When his mother, Michele, had a pre-Christmas conference with the teacher, she was told, You dont have to worry about Scott. Hes a winner. Then," says Michele, "it was as if he swallowed some of Dr. Jekylls potion. The first change came after Christmas.

Scott started acting up in class and fighting with other students. His teacher noted lack of attention, confusion and behavior swings that went from silly to surly. Withdraw From School Scott developed dark hollows under his eyes. He complained of headaches and stomach pains. Medical tests could locate no cause.

He became increasingly intractable. His physical and mental exhaustion finally forced the Tamarens to withdraw him from school. The family was planning a move to Massachusetts, but just beforehand. Scott came down with severe hives and nasal congestion. A thorough medical examination turned up no physiological disorder other than a possible allergy to grass.

When the Tamarens were resettled in June 1978 Scott calmed down and returned to his pre-spring patterns. That summer while vacationing on Cape Cod, Scott stumbled on a penny-candy store. He raced from one counter to the next, buying bubblegum, lollipops and caramel chews. The candy was all gone in three hours. Later that night, Michele was awakened by Scott's screams.

His legs were in spasms. "He spoke like a runaway tape recorder, pleading with James O'Shea, a pediatric allergist attending the session, told her later. "So it's often difficult to pinpoint the cause of a behavior or learning change." Michele asked Dr. OShea if he could help her son. Allergens to Blame Soon after, Dr.

OShea gave Scott tests in which food and inhalant extracts were injected under the skin of his arm. Most produced nothing more than a tiny pink dot called a wheal. But when he was sensitive to the substance, the diameter of the wheal enlarged to several millimeters within minutes. Tests revealed allergies to most molds, dust, grass, weeds and trees. This would explain his sharp decline in the spring," says Michele.

With allergens in both the air and his stomach, his system just went haywire. Treatment involved using neutralizing food-and-inhalant-extract drops, given under the tongue. Scientists suspect that the extracts inhibit the immune system so it doesnt recognize allergens as foreign substances. In a majority of cases, the symptoms disappear. Michele also made basic changes in Scotts diet, avoiding foods that contain preservatives, artificial colors, and other additives.

Within two weeks after start of Scott's therapy, there was dramatic improvement. His respiratory congretion, nightmares, and leg cramps disappeared; the circles under his eyes faded away; he fell asleep easily and woke up refreshed. By the summer of 1979, his attitude was considerably different. Scott, he wrote over and over, is a very happy boy." Copyright (c) 1982 The Reader's Digest Inc. and Commando Raid.

Space Jockey closely resembles Activisions Chopper Command. Commando Raid pits the players anti-aircraft gun against enemy bombers, jet fighters and paratroopers. Something Different Spectra Vision is probably the only new software firm that has not cast most of its games in the hackneyed maze-chase or save the girl from the bad guy molds. The first Spectra Vision games. Gangster Alley, Planet Patrol, Cross Fire, Tape Worm and China Syndrome, should be on the shelves in time for Christmas.

Gangster Alley plays like the police force shooting competition in Magnum Force, the Clint Eastwood cop flick. The bad guys suddenly appear in windows and on rooftops. Your mission is to shoot them before they shoot you, but you must first make sure they are cirminals, not innocent bystanders. In China Syndrome, players don their hardhats and try to patch up a nuclear reactor that has been damaged by an earthquake Planet Patrol and Cross Fire are space adventures, while Tape Worm is a lighthearted encounter between Slinky the Worm, Spanky the Spider and Beeky the Bird. Physical Science The founders of Comma Vid bring computer and physical science backgrounds to the consumer electronics marketplace.

The first group of cartridges will include Cosmic Swarm (giant termites building a nest in space), Room of Doom (similar to the old knives in the basket trick, but with guns). Mission Omega (a lone ship versus the powerful black heart space station) and Mines of Minos (one robot tries to piece together his buddies so they can help fight off an alien horde). No date on retail availability as yet. Data Age will have its first compliment of games ready for retail in October. Their first release consists of Encounter at L-5, Airlock, SSSSSnake, Survival Run and Warp Lock.

Company executives. Robert E. Rice and Herbert B. Ilershfield, both seasoned veterans of the record industry, promise to make Data Age a household word by the end of the year. How they intend to spread the word is under wraps at this point, but I did hear of acampaign called the Data Age Fall Flurry.

Weird Bird and Towering Inferno fall into the unlikely in real life but possible in video category. In Weird Bird, the player must dodge or confront a chicken that just loves to lay eggs.

Towering Inferno puts the player in the cockpit of a rescue helicopter that is the last hope for hundreds of tenants trapped in a burning skyscraper. In the action category, Vidtec offers Space Jockey Panel OKs Expenditure for Slide Show Social to The Tribune FARMINGTON Spending of $2,200 for a slide presentation promoting the benefits of growth and development has been approved by the Davis Comity Commission Carol Anderson, secretary for economic development in the Davis Comity Planning Department, told commissioners a viewing-box will be installed by the county assessors office so citizens can pass time viewing the slides while waiting in line to pay taxes.
