auspicious ly Notwithstanding the day was beau tiful and a large number of visitors as sembled and were highly entertained The programme consisted of music songs and declamations The pupils acquitted themselves a manner that did credit not only to themselves but to their teacher who has labored faith fully and earnestly to instruct and en courage them in their lessons as best he could After a few minutes inter mission Orville Stephens and Misses Mary Arnold Lizzie Gumley and Bertie Beal each responded with papers con taining comic and practical jokes on the teacher scholars and visitors which were hugely enjoyed by all Prof Wright has conducted our school for the past three years and has proven himself to be a gentleman in every re spect He is an excellent educator and has given the called by telegram Saturday to the home of her brother Oscar Sewell of New Al bany Ind She was there in a few hours after receiving the message and wired to her husband that her brother was just alive when she reached his bedside Mr Sewell died early Sun day morning and his remains will be brought here for interment uneral to be held Tuesday afternoon with the Masonic fraternity in charge Mrs NEW VIENNA Jos Toohfcy met with quite an acci dent Saturday March 28 while load ing baled straw on the farm of Jno Ed wards he accidentally slipped and fell to the ground lighting on his head and shoulder breaking a rib and was other wise badly bruised On account of his age Mr Toohey is recovering very slowly but his friends hope that he may soon be able to be out again As Chailender was bucket went to work to extinguish the flames in the burning building It took but a few minutes to see how fruitless were their efforts in this direction and all hands went to work to save the sur rounding dwellings while it was com pletely burned down The house oc cupied by Mrs Kirby was on fire once or twice but was quickly subdued and wet blankets thrown over the roof A high wind carried the flying embers in every direction and for a time the whole west end of town was in danger of being burned Had the wind been in the west instead of the east how different would have been this article In happiest event of our town for some time was the quiet marriage of Andrew Wilson to Miss Bertha John son at the beautiful home of the mother in this village Thursday even ing April 9 Rev Stover of Bellbrook officiating Mr Wilson is a retired school teacher of this county who has won many laurels in that profession and is now a member of the business firm of Earley Wilson of this place He is well connected and an esteemed gentleman while the bride is a sister of Will and Lindly Johnson both well known traveling salesmen The even ing was beautiful and happy The Port William Band made the welkin resound with melodious strains of joyful song which was highly appreciated by the friends and citizens and the bride and groom expressed their gratefulness in the usual way" Everybody was at Boston will have two classes in physical culture this term one consisting of young la dies and the other young gentlemen Base ball is one of the pleasant fea tures of amusement this term There is talk of organizing a Shaks peare reading circle Mrs John Peelle visited College riday afternoon fhe mill stones have arrived and are ready to be placed on the foundation which was prepared for them
