everthing in that line were kept in town And here after whenever an article of that kind is wanted there is no need of visiting cities to procure it but call on Mr McDermott and with his experienced ideas of the business the most fastid ious can be accommodated time forward by the prosperous con dition or otherwise of the woolen ufacturing business Receipts have fallen off and the supply of of one of its oldest (Citizens 5 Obituary SANDERS David Sanders was bojn near Lees burg Highland County ebruary 27 1828 end died August 7 1884 at Wilmington Being deprived of both parents ut an early age by death he lived for some years with his uncle James Huff near the place of his birth whence he removed "to the home of another uncle the late Betts of Martinsville Clinton County where he attended the school of Jlolhngs worth At this school the writer hereof became first acquainted with deceased who was then in hia seventeenth year He was at that time and indeed ever since in delicate health He was a fair student but was so timid and nerv our that lie could never be induced to take part in any public reading or ora torical effort His fellow students will remember him better for his kindness and urbanity his generous! and affec tionate disposition than for any un usual feats of intellectual effort Af ter attending school fora considerable period he contemplated tor a time en tering upon the profession of a teacher but his natural timidity caused him to abandon the idea He then entered upon the mercantile line with his un cle Betts and later becajne a partner in the firm of Bette Sanders which continued in business at Mar tinsville for some years About the year 1853 be was married to Mary RIzer who died in 1857 preceded by an infant son In October 1859 be was elected Treasurer of Clinton County and entered upon the duties of that office in September I860 was re elected in 1861 and served the two terms well and faithful In the pu tnmn of 1862 during his term of of fice as County Treasurer he was ap pointed and commissioned Collector of Internal Revenue for the Sixth District of Ohio by Abraham Lincoln and hlI that nosition until removed by Andrew Johnson for political reasons only In 1864 Mr Sanders was mnr tied to Miss Lizzie daughter of the late Laurence itzhugh Esq who with their son Addison and daughter May Sanders survives to lament the irrpearable loss of a kind indulgent and affectionate husband nnd father Af ter his retirement from office Mr 8an ders was engaged in the hardware trade with John A Smith as partner and after the dissolution of that firm was iu the drug business at length transfering the same te Dr Moore The last years of his life he was in the insurance business in which i he was engaged at the period of his death Mr Sanders had been a physi cal wreck and confirmed invalid for several years had at three or tour times been thought by his physicians to lie on hie last bed of sickness again and again lecupe rated slightly anil with invincible pluck and tenacity held on to life and its duties still meet ing and greeting his friends and neighbors on the streets with the same bland and cordial smile and urbane manners when such sufferings as his would have confined most persons to the privacy of retirement in the siek room But the fatal hour came at last all too soon Many sympathizing friends expresstheir regret tkat they did not call upon him and extend their kind wishes and attention in his last short illness His career is done He will be well and favorably remembered by all who knew him He was an up right conscientious citizen an honor able business man a wdrtu fpend te nacious of his likings and loyal ever to those who were tried and true Though lenient and apt to palliate the foibles and errors of others no man had a more intense hatred of cruelty and brutality Well do we remember the indignant sparkle of his great dark eyes at incidents when these dastardly trails were exhibited or related His vwm nf suffering are over his battle for life is ended his impulses are hushed The fire of his eyes te quenched he met death without re luctance and calmly went to the grave to await the
