i ie Beam At Warsonvi ranum Have Rraniim's back on the beam, which is good news for him and his fans and bad news for the rest of the stock car drivers at Watsonville Speedway. When Rranum starts winning, he has a habit of completely dominating his division, much as he did during parts of last season. The Santa Cruz ace's first triumph of the 1970 auto racing season came Friday evening in front of more then 1,700 specta tors at the quarter-mile track, located at the county a i r-grounds. A sizeable cheering section, composed mainly of Rraniim's close friends and family members, cheered him on as he performed brilliantly in the stocker class. Rranum, a bitterly-disappointed young man when he was put on probation at the end of last season following an altercation at the track, drove admirably as he paced the pack in the stocker trophy dash and in oval track main event, too.

He also was that division's fifth-fastest qualifier, which earned him a spot in the trophy dash. He outdueled Watsonville's Johnny Brazil Jr. and Santa Clara's Joe Esperanca in the trophy dash. They were and third, in that order. In the sportsman division, Cecil of Watsonville proved he can dominate a field whether 'he starts at the back of the pack or al the front of the pack.

Last week, he started up front and won his third main event in three weeks. This week, he started in the back and won his fourth race in four weeks. Santa Cruz drivers grabbed several places in the sportsman division. Bod Allen did some of his better driving of the season en rout to a convincing victory in the third heat race. The main event was one of the toughest of the last couple of seasons, with cars bumpms into each other over the track, and Allen finished 12th.

Santa Cruzan Rob Hedrick did fairly well, too, crusing to loth place in the sportsman division main event. And Mike Small, another Santa Cruz driver, took third place in the sportsman semi-main event. Capitola's Rob Walker placed eighth, Scotts Valley's Tony Ohveira ninth and Santa Cruzan I Wallace Reader 10th in the stock car oval track event. Heat race winners in the sportsman class were Rich Ogle Al Mathers iHollis-ten, Allen and Ken Amaya (San Jose i. Ogle also won the semi-main, ahead of Roh Robinson (Manna i and Small.

Keltner of Campbell won the "'figure-eight'' track main event, a fender-bending spectacular which saw 24 cars provide one of the more action-packed events of the year. Fastest qualifiers during the time trials were Bruce Mann of San Jose stackers and Tom "The Rabbit Ahreu of Cas'ro Valley i sportsmen i. SPORTSMAN DIVISION Ms! qualifiers Tnm Aftrpu.
