Get more boating on less fuel When youre thinking fuel economy, there are several things youll be doing as a matter of course that save gasoline. Call them boating practices, habits, or attitudes whatever they will provide more boating hours on less fuel. PLAN YOUR TRIP: Planning your boating excursion will avoid unnecessary running.

Fishermen, especially, should be careful not to cruise back and forth over the same area searching for different fishing hot spots. Fishermen can eliminate a lot of stops and starts by drift fishing a selected area when the wind is right. Some fishermen have equiped their boats with electric fishing motors. They can use these handy units for maneuvering their boat around whenever possible. WATER SKI DOUBLES: Repeated water skiing starts use more gasoline.

Try to keep them to a minimum. Skiing two water skiers at one time will result in a gas savings by providing a tow for two skiers at one time. FORM BOAT Lets take a tip from car poolers. Whatever your water sport fishing, water skiing, or just cruising, form a pool" of friends with similar interests to go with you. OFF THE WATER TIPS: Another important area of fuel conservation is found in trailering, fueling, and launching your outboard jig.

CAREFUL REFUELING: When fueling, be careful. Most 2-cycle outboards of recent manufacture operate on a lean 50-to-l ratio of gasoline to oil. However, many older models that previously required a 24-1 mix of the ash-based oil can now also use a 50-1 mixture of the oil is TC-W certified at 50-1 by the Boating Industry Association. Look for the certification seal on the can. If youre not sure whether you can operate your engine on 50-to-l, check with the manufacturer.

Another refueling tip: While squeezing the bulb on your fuel hose, visually check for leaks in the hose connections leaks are messy and wasteful. LAUNCHING: Get in the habit of launching and retrieving your boat from the water quickly and efficiently. Youll save gas and time. TRAILERING Make certain the air pressures in your car and trailer tires are correct. Temporarily, at least, forego those long trips in favor of nearby boating waters.

And, know your route. This will reduce the amount of running time getting there, and avoid an unnecessary search for the right road to the launching ramp.
