Cardall Anderson, S.L. Volunteer, Dies at 92 Sunday Cardall Anderson, 92, a longtime volunteer for whom a senior citizen's center is named and a former state representative, died Sunday. She once said: "No matter what volunteering I've done it is because I wanted to. If I can make anybody happier by sacrificing time, money or energy, that is what I want to do." Mrs. Anderson Mrs.

Anderson was born on a Sunday, March 3, 1895, in Salt Lake City, to Richard and Anna Petersen Cardall, the seventh child born on the seventh day. She was born one year before Utah became a state. She was the 1987 recipient of the Susa Young Gates Award, and received the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 67, Home Town Builder's Award in 1980 and was named the Junior Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Senior Citizen of 1973. Mrs. Anderson worked 14 years trying to provide a center for senior citizens on Salt Lake's west side, culminating in the dedication of the Sunday Anderson Westside Senior Citizens Center on June 17, 1978.

She continued to serve the center as a volunteer assistant director. Active in Democratic politics, Mrs. Anderson served in the Utah House of Representatives from 1951 to 1953. She was 84 when chosen by former Rep. Dan Marriott to be a Washing- George Carlos George Carlos Smith a 76-yearold youth leader in the Church of Jesus Christ -day Saints, died Sunday in Salt Lake City after a short illness.

Mr. Smith had been general superintendent of the church's Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association, a scouting volunteer, sports organizer and a missionary leader. He also served as president of two LDS missions in the Central States and Southeast Asia and the Holladay and Cottonwood stakes. Most recently he was a high priest group instructor, a Holladay Stake patriarch and a sealer in the Salt Lake Temple. Mr.

Smith was born in Salt Lake City on Aug. 23, 1910, to George Carlos and Lillian Emery Smith. He grew up on a dairy farm in Holladay, attended Granite High School and Utah State Agricultural College in Logan (now State University). He owned Carlos Smith Showkase in Holladay for 48 years. ton intern.

She served as president of the Women's Democratic Club, the Jane Jefferson Club and the Utah Order of Women Legislators. Four Utah governors were present at her 85th birthday, and three attended her 80th birthday celebration in the Gold Room of the State Capitol. In 1943, Mrs. Anderson was instrumental in establishing Sherwood Park at 400 South and 1400 West. For years, Mrs.

Anderson taught the blind and handicapped and was a volunteer for retarded children. She was a volunteer staff member of Neighborhood House, and served five years as president of Franklin Elementary School PTA. She was a member and officer of the American Association of Retired Persons, and served in many auxiliaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Virgil E. Anderson July 22, 1914, in a home in which she subsequently lived for 73 years.

The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July 1974. He died six months later, Jan. 4, 1975. Mrs. Anderson is survived by five children: Virginia Mollerup, John G.

Anderson, Anna Mae Anderson, Richard V. Anderson and Nancy Shingleton; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple.

Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services. Interment will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. Smith Jr. Dies He married La Von Petersen in the Salt Lake Temple on March 16, 1933.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter: George Carlos Smith III, Jerry Petersen Smith, Stephen Petersen Smith, all of Salt Lake City; and Nanette Smith Isaacson of Lawton, Okla. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Smith Miller. Other survivors include brothers and sisters Wilford and Ralph Smith of Holladay, Ina Wilson of Bountiful and Mary Ward of Salt Lake City, 23 grandchildren and two great-grand- Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Holladay Stake Center, 4568 Holladay Blvd.

Friends may a call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Mackay-Cottonwood Mortuary and an hour before the service. Burial will be in Holladay Memorial Park. Edna Chipman Firmage, 100, Dies Edna Chipman Firmage, a 100- year-old philanthropist and community leader, died Sunday at her daughter's home.

She and her late husband, John L. Penney Co. She for contriFirmage, were foundered of the J.C. butions to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including pipe organs to many wards. Mrs.

Firmage donated the Firmage Library to the University of Utah Business School in her husband's memory, along with annual scholarships to the school. She also made donations to the American Fork Training School, the Murray Allen Blind Center, Primary Children's Hospital and the American Fork Recreation Hall. In 1977, she was honored for her contributions to the fields of mental retardation and physical disabilities by the Mental Retardation Association of Utah. Mrs. Firmage was active in the LDS Church, having been a member of the Salt Lake Monument Park 1 16th and the Federal Heights wards.

She also belonged to the Alta Club, Salt Lake Country Club, University of Utah Mother's Club, the Opera Appreciation Club and the Balboa Bay of Newport Beach, Calif. She was born in American Fork to Alphonso G. and Fanny Louise Chipman. Mrs. Firmage is survived by a daughter, Edna Fae Richards; a sonin-law, G.

LaMont Richards; a sister, Fay Chipman Mercer; and a brother, D. Luzell Chipman, all of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, three sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m.
