a a a E. Borg, Smith ousted from Philly tennis can in the second set. El Shafei won the match on a service game, scoring the winning point by driving Smith of position to the deep right and volleying into the open left side. Smith joined four other seeded American players on the sidelines- Roscoe Tanner, Dick Stockton, Harold Solomon and Eddie Dibbs. Upset Monday along with Laver was Alex Metreveli of the Soviet Union.

Sydney Ball of Australia beat Tanner, the 1971 U.S. Amateur champion, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. Ball, who won the Queensland Championship in 1973, defeated the ninth-seeded Tanner in the 10th game by serving out at love. He won the match on a placement down the sideline. Veteran Australian lefthander Tony Roche toppled the 11th seeded Solomon 7-6, 6-4, in a brilliantly played, but hotly contested, match.

Play was halted in the match for eight minutes after Roche disputed a line call in the second set. After Roche protested, referee Vic Seixas ruled in favor of the linesman. Roche lost the game but later broke service to lead 5-4 and won the match in the next game. Cliff Drysdale, the twohanded backhand hitter from South Africa, beat Milan Holocek of Czechoslovakia 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Dent moved into the fourth round with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over fellow Australian Allan Stone.

Sherwood Stewart of the United States, the victor over Metreveli, went by the boards yesterday. American Paul Gerken beat him 6-3, 6-4. EACH I STORAGE CAP THE SUN-TELEGRAM-8-11 LEGAL ADVERTISEMENT PHILADELPHIA (AP) Top-seeded Bjorn Borg of Sweden was beaten yesterday by Bob Lutz of Los Angeles 6-1, 6-4 in the third round as the string of upsets continued in the $115,000 U.S. Pro Indoor Tennis Championships. Earlier yesterday, sixth- seeded Stan Smith, former U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion, was upset by Ismail El Shafei, a left-hander from Egypt, 7-6, 6-3. L.A.

Aztecs trade 7 for Velasquez LOS ANGELES (AP) The Los Angeles Aztecs, champions of the North American Soccer League, traded away seven starting players yesterday to San Antonio for the draft rights to rookie Sergio Velasquez. Velasquez, UCLA graduate who hasn't played a single minute of pro soccer, i is expected to sign with the Aztecs. Los Angeles also gets two first round draft picks in the trade, for 1976 and 1977. Going to the Thunder are midfielders Luis Marotte, Pedro Martinez, Renato Costa and Cesar Cortez, defensemen Ricardo de Rienzo El Shafei won the first set on a tie-breaker and then dominated the towering Ameri- and Mario Zenotti and goalie Blas Sanchez. Velasquez i is a 5-foot-9, 165- pounder who was an NCAA All-American his last two years at UCLA under Coach Terry Fisher, who joined the Aztecs as their head coach a month ago.

"He is without a doubt one of the most outstanding players in the country," Fisher said of Sanchez. "He's skillful and deceptive with the ball and he's a goal scorer, that's for sure." Last season Alex Perolli was the coach of the Aztecs. He left after winning the NASL title and is now the coach at San Antonio. Pineda is buried by fellow jockeys GLENDALE, Calif. (AP) With fellow jockeys as pallbearers, Alvaro Pineda was buried yesterday in a long and moving ceremony attended by more than 1,000 persons.

Pineda, 29, was killed Saturday after his horse reared in the starting gate at nearby Santa Anita Park. Pineda's head was thrown against a metal stall support. The pallbearers included jockeys Willie Shoemaker, Laffit Pincay Jr. and Ismael Valenzuela, Dr. Morey "Buzz" Engleson and horse owner and breeder Marty Nadel.

Earlier in the day, Nadel announced he had helped establish a trust fund for Pineda's young children, Matthew, 3, and Charlene, 17 months. Also in attendance were Pineda's brothers, Roberto of New York, George, Cipriano, Raul and David of Los Angeles; a sister, Connie of Los Angeles; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tito Pineda of Los Angeles, and his widow, Donna. Graveside services at Forest Lawn Memorial Park were conducted by Father Ralph A.

Fitzpatrick of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Arcadia. Engleson, the physician who helped Pineda straighten out his life in 1970 when personal problems nearly wiped out a promising career, had given a moving eulogy Monday night before a standing-roomonly crowd at the church. Pineda rode 2,731 winners in his career and his mounts won a total of $15,325,586. During the 1967 and 1968 seasons he rode perhaps more horses than anyone in the country. In 1966 he rode 2,119 horses and had 419 winners.

The following year he rode 2,044 times and won 329 times. In each of those two years he was runner-up for the national riding championship, first to Jorge Velasquez and then to Angel Cordero. At his death he was No. 15 in winners among all active jockeys and among the top 20 all-time.
