It wasn't until the bottom half of the ninth that Mid-County made some noise Tri-Cities held a 4-0 margin going the final half of the ninth when Mike Shrable beat out a slow roller to second- toat Al Meiktejohn hobbled. Rightfielder Gary Banks with three of the five Mid-County hits, banged an infield single play at Central Park against Sunnyvale National. In Sunday's first game, SLV fell behind, 1-0, after Alpine's first, but that lead was short lived as the Valley came back to tie it in the bottom of the inning.

Tom Wilson reach' ed base on an error, stole sec ond, went to third on another error, and scored on Mike Ewald's sacrifice fly. The Blues took the lead with a single run in the third when with one out, Mike Ferrin tripled and Wilson drove him across with a suicide bunt. The Valley continued to peck away, adding another run in the ensuing inning on a rather unusual play. Ewald singled, stole second and then scored on a fake bunt which resulted in a bad throw to third, allowing fc-wald to come home. SLV took a 5-1 lead after the fifth when Wilson drove in John Padelt an and Ferrin with a double suicide squeeze, thanks to some nifty baser tinning on Ferrin part.

Alpine managed a sixth inning run off Valley starter and win ner Dave Ius, but the locals came oacK to sew things up with two more runs in the bot torn of the sixth. Scott Thome and Padelt each drove in runs. Alpine scored in the seventh, but it was too late for the visitors. In the second game, Jim La cey went the first five innings on the mound and recorded his seventh win with no losses this season. In his two seasons with the Blues, Lacey is 13-0.

The Blues rapped out 13 hits in the second-game win, two each by Ferrin, Wilson, Ewald, Lacey and Pat O'Brien.
