1 Athletic poteo MEDLoCKI New Year InterCollegiate Foot Ball Game The foot ball game between the Kingfisher team and the University team on the afternoon of December 31st was very ex iting The two teams had strong lines and the contest was spirited The game was called for 3:30 but the ground was not worked off and the game was delayed until a few minutes after 4 o'clock For tact skill energy and activity the game can not be surpassed The line up was as follows: University Position Kingfisher Clapham Chapman Barrow Humphrey Howell Mahew Merkle Way Hefley Farr Merkle May McCutchen Chase Ford Johnston Mackey Barnes Short Alley Smith Full Back Norris all Game Kingfisher the afternoon The two contest was 3:30 but the game was 3'clock For can not Kingfisher Chapman Mabew Way Farr May Chase Johnston Barnes Alley Norris THE UNIVERSITY UMPIRE jumped out of the scrimmage and ran clear across the ground with McCutchen and Mackey in hot pursuit He succeeded in gaining the goal and made a touch down Alley succeeded in kicking goal At this juncture the storm of applause was deafening and colors waved frantically Merkle kicked off for the UniLg yersity and the game was hot again Kingfisher caught the ball and carried it back ten yards then in a scrimmage Alley got the ball and ran to the University goal making a safety just as the time for the first half was called thus closgame ing the first lthlf eight to six in favor of King-follows fisher Merkle kicked off for the University at the beginning of the second half and Barnes caught the ball The Kingfisher boys now gained steadily on the University boys and the success of the first half promised to spur them on to suc cess again Alley distinguished himself by an end runt gaining ten yards Barnes then fumbled the ball and Merkle caught it Then came steady gains for the University boys By this time the University had found a weak place in the King- fisher tackle and they bucked it hard gaining every time Borrow literally walked right through them Thus the ball was carrie1 to the five yard line and Clapham by an end play made a touch down He then kicked goal sucnd cessfully and the ball was agian on the field for the fourhteen minufes that remained of the second half Barnes kicked off and Mackey caught the ball and made a good run NOW the University team gained rapidly on Kingfisher till the ball was on the fifteen yard line when Barnes fouled McCu tchen and the University boys were given 10 yards by two herculean efforts the ball was pushed over the line and Mackey made a touch down Clapham failed to kick goal and and only two minutes were left Barnes again kicked off for Kingfisher and five downs were made in the two minutes in which the University gained twenty yards The second half then closed sixteen to eight in favor of the University Norris kicked off for Kingfisher and then the tumble began Mackey caught the ball and carried it to the University forty-five yard line The plays were fast and Ford kept his men hard at work First two tackle plays were made then Mackey made an end run and gained ten yards Kingfisher now got the ball but lost it on a fumble and Mackey snatched it up and ran ten yards he was downed on the Kingfisher fifteen yard line and then by steady gains the ball was pushed to the five yard line and by an end play Mackey made a touch down fifteen minutes after the game began Clapham succeeded in kicking goal and the game stood 6 to 0 in favor of the Unversity Barnes now kicked off for Kingfisher and Merkle caught the ball and started like a lion for Kingfisher's goal the ball was downed and some little discussion arose which the umpire settled Now the lines met face to face but the University seemed to be too heavy for Kingfisher and gained steadily by end and tackle plays Mackey and Barrow did their best and the ball was again on the Kingfisher five yard line when Chapman got the ball away from the University and then the he ball and forty-five Ford kept tackle plays end run and got the ball snatched it wned on the en by steady ve yard line touch down Clapham game stood fisher and like a lion downed and the umpire It speaks well for the interest and enthusiasm of the students to note that nearly everyone was in his place Monday morning after holidays and the work was taken up with out any un: necessary rearrangement.
