Kenneth and Marghretta McLeisb, who have been very sick the past week, are much improved at this writing. Chas Stewart an employe of the railroad spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas, Stewart, Mrs. Frank Weinke was a Baraboo caller Saturday.

The borne of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stewart was gladdened by the arival of a daughter Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Nettie Rams3y of Madison is spending her vacation with her Helen Zastrow spent several days last week with Baraboo friends, i Miss Maggie Harvey and Mrs. John Simm and family departed Friday for a ten days visit with relatives in Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Koepp and bod spent Sunday at Mr.

Mrs. John Horns of Chicago is spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ramsay.

DEKORRA. The contract raised in this vicinity yielded a very good crop this Maurice Youngs threshed about 550 bushels, John Batty Jr. about the Bame and John Batty Sr. about 450 bushels. Two carloads were shipped from Hartman on Saturday, B.

King superintended the delivery. The price paid was about $1.75 per bu. Miss Carrie Stewart is spending tbe Christmas holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas.

Stewart, in Caledonian Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Stewart and family spent Christmas with Mr.

and Mrs. George Hamilton in Pacific. Tbe. Christmas tree and entertainment in -the school bouse on "Friday night proved a success in every way. Mr.

and Mrs. Frank Aldrich and Isabel spent Christmas in Rio. Mr. and M. Grady and family spent Christmas with John Kirley and family of Doylestown.

Misa Mary E. Grady, teacher at Randolph Center, is spending her Christmas vacation at home. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Huggett and family spent Sunday at Frank Aldrichs.

Owen Kirley of Ireland, who is visiting friends and relatives near Doylestown, spent Monday evening with Michael Grady and family. OAK GROVE FARMER IS BURNED Loses Life When Dwelling Takes Fire-Lived All Alone. William Ebnke, who lived alone in a small bouse one mile northwest of Juneau, Dodge county, was burned to death in his home Tuesday night. Neighbors discovered the fire and endeavored to rescue Ehnke but tbe fiamea bad gained too much headway. The bouse was entirely destroyed and Ebnkes remains were found in the ruins after the lire was out.

He was a eccentric man and had a mania for purchasing old machinery and banling it into his yard and leaving it there. It is not known bow the fire Btarted. Many Years Prominent in Citys Business and Social Affairs Universally Respected and Liked Hert Trouble Cause of Death. Charles R. Gallett, pioneer merchant of Portage and several times mayor, died Wednesday- in San Francisco, where be has made his home for a number of years.

Heart trouble was the cause. A telegram announcing Mr. Galletts death came from his son James to E. L. Mem hard of Portage.

It was dated San Francisco, Dec. 27, and read as follows: Father died this afternoon of heart trouble. He passed away peacefully and without pain. Please notify his friends and Wauona lodge of Odd Fel lows. i The presumption is that burial wil be in San Francisco.

Mr. Gallett is survived by bis wife and five children. Mrs. Gallett celebrated her 73d birthday a few days ago. The three aons, Harry, Robert and James, and the younger daughter Miss Hattie Gallett, reside in San Fran cisco.

The elder daughter, Sarah Smith, formerly of Eau Claire, is Jiving in one of the larger western cities. Mr. Gallett was born in Benton, Yates county, N. Jan, 6, 1833. He lived as a lad in Petersburg and Penn Yan.

His education was received largely at Lima Seminary in Livingston county, N. and on completing his studies there the young man jwas. engaged as a school teacher in bis native county. Mr. Galletts coming to Wisconsin dates hack to 1854.

A year later he located in Portsge. His first business was surveying and engineerings i which he followed until -1860. Then he entered the big mercantile establishment of N. H. Wood Co.

as a clerk, and later was with the firm, of Wood, Loomis Osborn. In 1863 he became a member of the firm of Wood, Loomis Co. Two years later the of the firm was changed to N. Wood Co. Mr.

Galiett was the only -partner of the late Nathan H. Wood in 1869. Thus it remained until 1869, when the firm of Loomis, Gallett Breese took over the business The store was large and prosperous and for a time operated branches at Augusta and other points north. Not long after Mr. Gallett retired from the business, about twenty years ago, the firm name became Breese, Loomis and the present Loomis Co.

is its successor; Back in the 80s Mr. Gallett wsb much of the time at Prentice. With other Portage men he was interested in lumbering and merchandising, with the Jump River Lumber -Co. He was its manager at Prentice. His removal to San Frar.cisco some years since was to be with his sons Harry, Robert and James.

Harry, the eldest, is virtually at the bead of the Judson Mfg. Co. of San Francisco, one of the greatest iron concerns of the cosst. Mr. Gallett was married at Portage May 5, 1865, to Miss Lydia V.

Wells. Their home for years was -in a com fortable dwelling in the midst of a beautiful park and grove in the Fifth ward. Decedent was prominent in Masonic and Odd Fellow, lodges. He, served Portage three terms as was city treasurer and alderman. -'In 1879 be was a member of the legislature.

For two years in the 70s he was pres-ident 4ft the -Portage Curling Club. When be was mayor be held also the presidency of the Portage Mfg. and that of tbe Waterhouse Mfg. besides being Noble Grand of tbe O. O.

F. lodge aDd an officer in tbe Masonic fraternity. A square, likable, honorable gentle man, faithful friend, public spirited citizen was Charley Gallett, and he goes to bis grave sincerely mourned by tbe older Portagites who knew him best. WISCONSIN FAIR MEN TO MEET J. C.

Mackenzie of Madison Will Discuss Law and State Aid Rules. The annual meeting of the members of the Association of Wisconsin Fairs is to be held in Milwaukee io January, though tbe exact date has not yet been prepared. President F. M. Porter of Eikborn, and Secretary M.

Syverson of Tomab, are arranging a program to surpass any that baa yet been offered. J. C. Mackenzie, in the office of Secretary of State Frear, in whose custody are tbe records of the various county fairs and whose duty it is to adjust the claims of county agricultural societies for state aid, will attend tbe meeting to discuss tbe various aspects of the law and tbe regulations. There are Seventy-eight county agricultural societies in the state, each bolding an annut fJr and each having a claim against the Biate for aid.

So far only twenty of the fairs have reported. Secretary F. A Rhyme of the Columbia County Fair Asbd. will attend the meeting. One thing in favor of this present season.
