But, the season has a long way to go.

Shortstop Randy Pate had his best game of the season, smashing a double, four singles to drive in four Seahawk runs. Dale Hendrickson went two for five, Jennings two for four and Russ Bethel two for four in the hitting department. The Hawks score once in the first, two more in the fourth, three in the sixth and a solo tally in the eighth before the game-winning rally. Totally, Cabrillo pounded two Gavilan pitchers for 16 hits. Cabrillo hosts Ohlone Tuesday before facing conference game came in the ninth and it gave Cabrillo the opportunity to score three times.

Mike Stewart got aboard on a throwing error by losing pitcher Ed Bala and advanced to second on the toss to first. Kurt Talley walked, and in the meantime, Stewart stole third to put Hawks at the corners. The old double steal play used effectively more times than not got the first Cabrillo run home when the cutoff man missed the ball, for the second Gavilan error, allowing Stewart to come home free with an unearned go-ahead run. Former Watsonville High product Jay Brazil pinch hit for GILROY "They really showed a lot of character out there today. They really hung in there," touted Cabrillo College baseball coach Jerry Fishel Friday.

He had reason to be pleased after the way his Seahawks rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth inning to polish off Gavilan, 10-7. Fishel didn't have the opportunity of watching the dramatic finish after being tossed earlier in the game following a heated debate with the home plate umpire. The Hawk mentor added "nothing seems to upset them. They really rallied together." Both Gavilan errors for the Ed Monroe, even though Santa Cruz High grad had registered a three for four afternoon at the plate. Bala walked Brazil and the double steal put runners on second and third.

Jerry Jennings cleared the hazy picture with a towering double over the 300-plus center field fence for two RBIs, sending Cabrillo to a 10-7 edge. Brazil sent the Rams down in order one, two, three in the bottom half of the inning, secured Cabrillo's fifth conference triumph against three defeats. Soquel Sophomore Jeff Stewart pitched seven innings of scoreless ball, limiting Seaside to just three hits. Soquel, on the other hand, broke out of a recent hitting slump with 10 hits. The Knights also backed up Stewart-by playing error-less baseball. Mike Cortright opened up the Soquel third inning with a base on balls, and traveled to second on a sacrafice by Andy Brint.

Leftfielder Brad Twaddle drove Cortright home with a hard single. Twaddle promptly stole second base, and moved to third when Mark Grenier grounded out. Mark Van Den Heuval delivered a single to score Twaddle and Soquel had a 2-0 lead. Van Den Heuval again singled in the sixth inning to get the ball rolling for the Knights. Nicks Adams singled putting Soquel runners on first and third.

On a daring double steal, Scott Trompeter, a pinch runner for Van Den Heuval, was thrown out at the plate, but Adams went to second. Adams scored when Tim Hamm laced a double, Hamm scored when Stewart helped his own cause with a single of his own. uicide Squeeze Ruins SC Cardinals, 4- deadlocking with North Salinas, 9-9, Friday in Salinas. Soquel, Aptos, and Watson-ville High School are other teams which, for one reason or. another, have tied ballgames this year.

The game most likely will be played at a later date, especially if it has a bearing on the final league standings. Harbor led at one time 5-1. North High came back to tie the game in the second inning, 5-5. Harbor picked up two runs in the top of the fourth frame to regain the edge, 7-5. But North Salinas came up with three in the fifth to jump ahead, 8-7.

Harbor tied it up once again in the sixth inning. The Pirates scored again to lead, 9-8, but North Salinas scored one of its own, and it was 9-9. Most of Harbor's offensive punch came from Dan Kakeldey and John Gambello. Kakeldey had three hits, and three RBIs, while Gambello only had one hit, but it was a two run home run shot in the first inning. Harbor coach Claude Sharp used five pitchers in the effort.

But, you don't win baseball games on Three consecutive times the Panthers booted the ball and it opened a gaping hole in the defense enabling King City to post a runaway victory, 13-7. The Panthers rolled up a 6-3 edge following three innings and in most circumstances the score would have held up the rest of the way. Unfortunately, sophomore righthander Russell Gross was charged with the loss although he did a worthy job but had little support behind him. Two miscues by Bob Hart and a dropped fly ball by Ken Mcln-tyre opened the scoring door for the Mustangs. Coach Fred Pfyf-fer lifted Gross after he had faced six batters in lieu of junior Dann Bilardello.

Marello had a chance to rally back in the sixth. Bob Hart doubled to left-center field only to be nailed at third trying to steal on a pass ball two pitches later. With two down, walks to Brian McNulty and Bilardello intermixed with an error on Ken Brokaw's grounder loaded the base pads. Joe Bartle walked for a 9-7 score but Bill Hart ended the flare up with a ground out back to the mound. Richards took the first offering to him a ball allowing Gilbert to steal second uncontested which set the stage for the game's final pitch. Richards bunted the ball to the, left of the mound where Kensinger fielded it cleanly and threw home in hopes of getting Camacho, who slid in just barely ahead of the throw with the game-ending run. The contest, though, would have come to a halt three stanzas earlier had it not been for the heroics of Alisal By GREG LATHROP SALINAS Ed Richards' one-out suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the tenth inning scored Danny Camacho from third to give Alisal a 4-3 win over visiting Santa Cruz here Friday afternoon. Camacho started the winning rally with a one out wind blown pop single to right-center, and then stole second and continued to third as the catcher's throw skipped into center with Dennis Gilbert at bat.

The cftunt went to 1-1 on Gilbert when Cardinal coach Bill Dodge decided to replace starting pitcher Greg Wehr, who hurled a fine ballgame, with shortstop Al Kensinger. Dave Munoz opened the Card sixth with a walk, and after Ken O'Connell drilled a single to right-center, Kensinger drew a 3-0 count base balls to fill the sacks. Kevin Rains drove in Munoz with the first run on a sacrifice fly, and following a strike out for the second out, Carlos Ybarra walked to reload the bases. Wehr then promptly lined a single up the middle to drive in O'Connell and Kensinger for a 3-2 Card lead which, held up until Patt's jolting swat in the last of the seventh. Santa Cruz, now 1-2 in Monterey Bay League action and tied with Watsonville for sec designated-hitter Cory Patton.

With one gone in the bottom of the seventh inning and Santa Cruz holding a precarious 3-2 lead, Patton stepped to the plate and blasted a Wehr de-livery well over the rightf ielder's head into no-man's land for an easy home run to tie the score. Wehr came back to retire the next two hitters on a pop-up and a ground out to send the game Santa Cruz seemingly had won into extra innings. The Cardinals scored all their runs in the sixth frame for a 3-2 edge after the Trojans pushed across a pair of unearned tallies in the third to take a 2-0 lead. 35 4 7 Totals 34 3 6 Totals Santa Cruz 000 003 000 0 Alisal 002 000 100 1 Soqutl (4) SmsM (0) HR Patton, RBI Wehr 2 Rams. First, the good news three SLV pitchers struck out 12 batters, eight of these by starter Mark Sessions, and they held four Monterey batters hitless. Now, the bad news The Valley's defense completely collapsed, committing an incredible 16 errors en route to an 18-4 loss to Monterey. And the game didn't even go the regulation distance. It was halted after six innings, not out of mercy but because of darkness.

Thirteen of Monterey's runs came after two men were out, and only two of the 18 tallies were classified as earned runs because of the flood of SLV errors. Monterey only out-hit the the fifth inning, the Toreadores scored nine runs, seven of them unearned as the result oi four more Cougar errors. Bob King scored the first Valley run. With two out in the bottom of the first frame, he singled sharply to left field, stole second and raced to third on a wild pitch, then came home when Monterey pitcher Dave Packard threw wildly past third base. In the third, Don Davis walked, was sacrificed nicely to second by Dan Ius, singled to third by Jim Rinkert and scored on a passed ball.

Dan Wilson walked and later scored on an error in the fourth inning and moments later teammate Davis drilled a single to bring home Dale Busch with the final SLV run.
