Valedictory The undersigned have ceased to be connected with the River Times The relations which we have sustained to the democratic party for several years past justilya few words more than a mere notification that those relations have ceased to exist The Tints was established and published until within a short time by John Delany James Delany jr (now deceased) Joseph Delany and Arthur Delany os a democratic paper owing fealty to and re-ceiving assistance fromno man or set of men save the national democratic party It was endorsed almost on its first appearance by the democratic party within Columbia county anJ declared the organ of that party This placed its conductors in a high anfi responsible position Tho democratic parly in at that day was coalesced to some extent with organizations which could not fraternize with the national democratic party and a temporizing policy was adopted That temporizing policy we opposed in its inception embarrassed so far as we could in its progress and denounced in its triumph It has now passed away and the party of the stale is on the national platform We impeach not the honesty nor the judgment that dictated the course we could not approve on the part of those who are now of the democrc party and it is-not ourpro-vince on this occasion to speak of or to men not of that party Let the memory of the matter serve but as a warning lor the future In tho third congressional district of the state the democratic parly was disorganized about the time we commenced our editorial charge We opposed that disorganization with zeal and such ability as we could bring to the work The disorganization was completo and overwhelming That has nleo passed away and our district now gives the largest vote and the largest democratic majority given by any congressional district in the union Let the animosities engendered by that disorganization be buried In our county our party has not been without difficulties temporarily aflecting its organization and impairing its We hare warred with all attempts at dis organization and spoken of them as wrongs They now belong to the past our party in the County is united and strongly In the majority Let not the memory of the past here invoked for the purpose of making wounds bleed afresh which arc now happily healed or being healed In the matter of appointments for the state by the general government gross and palpable wrongs were perpetrated by some our members of congress tho wishes the harmony and the respectability of the democratic party were disregarded injustice was done to men and localities and the appointments made stumbling blocks iii the road of the party by the recommendation in many instances of men whose sole merit was service reudered in promoting tho persona! objects of the members of congress who controlled the matter regardless of the interests and will of the people On this subject we have spoken fully and freely The late
