IS to the story of the forgotten team of Texas schoolboy football Jacksonville's Indians who finish the season undefeated and still not win the district championship.

Today they stand with the 17 undefeated elevens of the state. They have scored 59 points to the opposition's 6. Only a scoreless tie with Overton in the open- Ing game of the they got the intricate formation to an otherwise perfect record. But here's the trouble: Jacksonville refused to play Lxifkin in the district race as the result of an eligibility squabble. So did Palestine.

Thus, Lufkin started the season with forfeits over both teams. So Jacksonville, one down without firing a pass, would have to win all its district games and Lufkin would have to drop one for the Indians to even tie the Panthers. And Lufkin, ranked with the state's top elevens, plays only three conference foes and their opponents accorded an outside chance. But Jacksonville rolls on as if every yard meant part of the title. They've beaten Gladewater, an outfit that gave 'the heralded Tyler Lions a- hefty battle, and they've downed Carthage and Grapeland, two Strong Class A outfits.

They have gained 596 yards rushing and 212 passing while the opposition has made 264 and 71 respectively. Thus the Indians' defensive record is less than 84 yards per game. Coach of the Indians is J. M. Moorman, who came here from Brenham via College Station where he conditioned AAT 1 cadets.
