Jordan was like a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day The letter reaffirmed this faith in people at a time when-t must confess I had begun to wonder if there were still any who cared to take an active interest in supporting a losing team The failure of the Rangers to produce a this season bad turned away many fans as Vlast week in the home finale when a very sparse crowd showed up to watch the game with barton But there are still a few who care and stick with the team win or love One of these is Mrs Jordan I felt like the readers of the lews Herald mjght like to share her letter with me' so here it is-j Mr Callaway I'm sure all in a daj's work lor you but you made this set of day much brighter with your Nov 4th picture and writeup about that' number 80 Ranger Being one of that group '(Mother of an Athlete -MAA) I exercised my right by showing it to each and every neighbor and those I I telephoned! I was a bit discreet however and I waited until they asked how the game went Saturday You know convinced going to be a Mothers of Athletes often wondered why we have a Quarterback Club) Vte add a few hundred don't Sportingly Mrs Jack Jordan Jr PS Even though the Rangers didn't come in first they gave us an awful lot of pleasure and our thanks go to Coach Simmons and the rest of the My sincere thanks go to Mrs Jordan for taking the time to write this letter I'm really glad to see a parent take to much Interest in her team I recall earlier this year when the Rangers played at Cisco on a cold rainy night Among the few fans in the stands backing KC were the Jordans Their son Geary has played some fine football for the Rangers the past two seasons and is one of the top candidates for all-TJCFF defensive honors this year be missed next fall -and so will his parents The Rangers need more backers like them 4 his field twice and sped 65 yards for a touchdown in the first half But Texas which has now won 17 straight over two years and is 8-0 this season already had a 21-0 lead on three first quar- ter scores A few minutes after run a 5-yard penalty for delaying the game halted a TCU bid at the Texas 27 and the Longhorns put the game out of reach with two more first half scores One was on an 80-yard march climaxed by fullback Steve Worsteds 1-yard plunge and the other came with 43 seconds left in the half Charles Speyrer hauled in an 18-yard pass from quarterback James Street after setting up the score with a 37-yard punt return second team went in midway through the third quarter and sub Eddie Phillips threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to Ken Ehrig who was 20 yards in the clear victory was particularly convincing when it remembered that underdog TCU teams have knocked off unbeaten Longhorn squads twice in the past 10 years costing Texas possible national championships in 1959 and 1961 Texas tight end Tommy Woodard suffered torn legaments In his knee on punt return and the Longhorns lost another starter early in the first quarter ijt FOOTBALL SCORES COLUMBUS Ohio (AP) A devastating Ohio State defense pressured Mike Phipps into five interceptions Saturday
