Pt 2 KILGORE NEWS HERALD Sunday NoremWr 13 1968 i IV Porkers Back in SWC Title Picture Bradley at Helm Longhorns Edge Past TCU 13-3 Arkansas Trips SM IU1 Ini 17-6 Win Cinches Tie for a Conference Title By TOM FATHERREE With a strong scent of Georgia peach blossoms hanging over St John Stadium the Kilgore College Rangers polished off arch-rival Tyler Apaches 17-6 here Saturday night in a bitterly contested Texas Junior College Football Federation game played before about 8500 fans The Rangers got their eighth win of the season and are expecting a bid possibly today to play in the NJCAA Shrine Bowl at Savannah Gaf on Friday Nov 25 The win gave the Rangers a share of the conference championship with Henderson County The Cardinals finished their schedule Friday night with a 28-8 win oVer Navarro and the two teams wound up league play with identical 6-1 marks The game was typical of the high rivalry between Kilgore and Tyler It was so typical that it included a fist-swinging free-for-all be- FAYETTEVILLE Ark (AP) Sophomore David Dickey scored two touchdowns and Martina Bercher returned a punt 69 yards for another Saturday as sixth-ranked Arkansas moved back into the Southwest Conference title picture with a 22-0 victory over Southern led by All-America tackle Loyd Phillips The deepest penetration was the Razorbaek 29 in the final three minutes IT WAS THE fifth SWC victory in six games for the Porkers who can clinch another trip to the Cotton Bowl next week by beating Texas Tech Should Arkansas win and SMU lose to or tie either Baylor or Texas Christian in its remaining games Arkansas would win an unprecedented third straight undisputed SWC crown Bob White put Arkansas ahead on the Razorbacks' first possession when he kicked a 39-yard field goal two yards He thus Increased his touchdown total to eight in the last three games 38 carries broke the previous conference record of 37 set by Ray McKown of TCU against Arkansas in 1952 Dickey got strong support from fullback Eddie Woodless who ran the draw to perfection in picking up 66 yards in 11 carries Quarterback Jon Brittenum hit on 7 of 15 passes for 90 yards and engineered scoring drives of 65 and 36 yards in the final quarter to put the game on ice Meanwhile the Razorbaek defense coutained deadly Bercher followed in the cyense holding the Mustangs to second period with his dazzling yards TCU COACH ABE LIARTH!
