fT' DOUGLAS COUNTY HERALD, AVA MISSOURI 631608 A-THREE THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26. 2002 DEATHS Lawrence Roland Shell, 69 Lawrence Roland Shell, son of Lawrence Milton and Nancy (Men-dell) Shell was born on October 18, 1933 in Lakefield. Ore. and departed this life on earth to be with his heavenly father on December 22. 2002 in Springfield, at the age ot69 sears.

Lawrence "Larry was a resident of the Ava Goodhope community since 1985 moving from Jacksonville. Flu. Larry had served his country in the U.S. Navy and seived in the Korea Conflict -and Vietnam He was a retired chief non-commissioned officer. He was a Christian and was so looking toi ward to being baptized this Chnsimas.

On December 24. 1980 Larry and Prapaisri Numsri were united in marriage in Reno. Nevada. Lairy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Burrill. His survivors include his wife ol the home, Prapaisri Shell of Ava; one brother, Milton Shell, and one sister, Karen Shell, both of California; and special friends from the Goodhope community.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being conducted by Chnhingbeard Funeral Home, Ava. Memorials can be made to the Red Bank Baptist Church Building Fund, Gideons International or American Cancer Society at the funeral home. Basher Mack lililler Were wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas. We join the rest gelling ready for the holidays and the predicted weather storm.

There were 28 at Basher on Sunday morning. We had several visitors join us for our holiday dinner after church. We enjoyed the music and Christmas songs after lunch. Last Sunday, Jack and Barbara and I went to the Christmas program at Friendship Church and this Sunday night sse went to the program at the Assembly. Both programs were excellent and we really enjoyed them.

Bob and Susie Miller returned from their trip to the Indian Reservation at Mission, South Dakota. They look toys and food. Several churches had sponsored the trip. Margaret Pearcy visited with Bob and Linda McCleary on Sunday evening. Saturday afternoon visitors of Bob and Linda McCleary were Jason.

Summer, Alexis and Natalie Hilliard of El Paso. Texas. Other visits were Billie Gail and Ryan, Carol and Robert. A week ago Sunday night Kesan, Justyn, Busier. Jessie, Jenna and Wyatt Davis and Brooke Bolin had an early Christmas with Bob and Linda McCleary.

Last Tuesday evening Alysa Nash visited wilh Nana Barbaia Breshears. We m6de Christmas candies. Papa Jacl Breshears went with Terry and Delayna Dry to watch Chance play basketball at Hartville. Bob and Linda helped me put Christmas lights on my windmill. I enjoyed visiting with several friends at the craft show.

Now its time to get more wood in. Don and Pam Cunningham of Springfield visited with Linda and Bob McCleary on Sunday evening. Visitors of Kevan Davis, Justyn, Jessie, Jenna, Wyatt and Buster on Wednesday evening were Chiton and Grace Davis, Sonny and Sharon Nelson, Linda and Bob McCleary and Ronnie Curry. Birthday wishes go to Chris Breshears, Stellena Whorton, Hailey Todd and Drake Burkhead. The girls reminded me of Santas stockings to fill.

Guess Im not through with my shopping yet. Hope the snow storm holds off for awhile. Merry Christmas to all our friends and relatives in Alaska, Washington and Oklahoma. Pettit, 93 Arlee F. Pettit, daughter of William Jasper Hicks and Nancy Ellen (Ewing) Hicks was born on September 29, 1909 in Bradleyville and departed this life on earth to be with her heavenly father on December 22, 2002 in Rolla at the age of 93 years. Arlee was a resident of Rolla since 1989 moving from Ava where she and her husband, Ljle, lived most of their lives.

Arlee was a housewife and a homemaker. She was a member of the Ava General Baptist Church. Arlee was the churchs clerk for 25 years. She also was involved in the Womens Missionary Group. On July 15, 1930, Arlee and Lyle H.

Pettit were united in marriage in West Plains. To this union two daughters were born. Arlee was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Earl and Ernest Hicks, one sister, Chloe Lee and her husband, Lyle Pettit in 1999. Her survivors include two daughters, Barbara Sue Holman, and husband James, and Sharon Kay Irwin, and husband, Charles, all of Rolla; four grandchildren, Gregory Holman, Mexico, Beth Carlile, husband, Kevin, and Jill Moreland, and husband Keith, all of Rolla, and Angela Curry, and husband David, of Kansas City; five great-grandchildren, Taylour, Morgan and McKenzie Carlile, and Macy and Sophie Moreland; and a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held Friday, Dec.

27 at 2 p.m. at the Ava General Baptist Church, Ava, with the Rev. Oren Alcorn officiating. Interment will be in the Ava Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Ava General Baptist Church, Ava.

Myrtle Georgie Smith, 102 Mrytle Georgie Smith, age 102, of Zanoni, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2002, at the home of her son, Huey. Myrtle was born on March 19, 1900 in Ozark County to Taylor Strong and Rebecca (Satterfield) Strong. She was united in marriage to Dewey Smith on Oct. 13, 1916 in Ozark County, Missouri. Together they were privileged to share almost 69 years of marriage.

Rev. Pcuc Smith preceded her in death September 22, 1985. Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Edith, three sons, Arliss, Everett, and Prentice, and one great-granddaughter, Sharon Ward. Myrtle and her husband spent many years in Ozark County where they raised their family of ten children. As the wife of a First Congregational Methodist minister, Mrytle, always took an active role in the churches her husband pas-tored.

These included churches in Ozark, Douglas and Lawrence counties. Myrtle loved the Lord and she loved going to church. She was a long time member of the Pleasant Hill Church and the First Congregational Methodist Church in Sycamore, Mo. Survivors include three daughters, Sylvia Reeves of Republic, Pauline Noble of Spring-field, Wilma Cook of Portage, four sons, Sampson Smith of Springfield, Claudie Smith of Greenfield, Dewey Smith, Jr. of Bolivar, and Huey Smith of Zanoni; 28 grandchildren, 58 greatgrandchildren, and 31 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at Clinking-beard Funeral Home of Gainesville, with J. D. Williams officiating.

December 17, 20U2 in Cos Suuih Hospital. He vsas born June 10, 1941 in Springfield, the son ol Fred Alden and Fredia Mae (Lions) Whitaker. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On April 24.

15 he and Judith Paulette Swadlev were married Mr. Whitaker worked in construction and was a Special Equipment Operator for Burlington-Northern Railroad-. He was a member ot Washington Lodge 87 A F. A. A.M.

in Greenfield. Survivors include: His wile. Judy; two children. Sheila Massey and husband Mike and Johnny Whitaker, all ot Garrison; two grandchildren, Riley and Trenlon Massey; a brother, James Whitaker, Greenfield; a sister. Ruby Cornog, Ozark, Ins mother-in-law, Belly Swadley, Garrison; and a family friend, Cindy Clark.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Friday, December 20, in Union Grove Cemetery, Douglas County, under the direction of Adams Funeral Home. Ozark. The Rev. Vernon Fuller officiated.

Visitation was Thursday evening in the funeral home, with Masonic services provided by Joe Hunt and Washington Lodge 87 A.F, A.M. Arthur B. Archie Staveley, 85 Arthur "Archie B. Staveley, 85, of Rt. 6, Ava, and formerly of Gardner, died in the Heart of the Ozarks Care Center, Ava, following an illness.

Born in Chelmsford, Mass. On Dec. 13, 1917, he was the son of Wilford and Thorne (Hollis) Stavely. He was a salesman employed by the former Heywood-Wakefield, Co. of Gardner, for 45 years until retiring in 1972.

He was a 1935 graduate of Gardner High School. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Stella A. (Zablonski) Staveley of Ava; one daughter, Elaine L. Thomas of Ava; one brother, Earle Staveley of Orange City, two sisters, Sally Leger and Louise Kulczyk, both of Gardner, four grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Staveley of Illinois who died in 1962 and a brother, Kenneth Staveley.

Funeral services will be held at a later date in Gardner, Mass. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Gardner, Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes MA Affiliate, 1 Broomfield Suite 5, Boston, MA 02108-5117. The Boucher Funeral Home, 1 10 Nichols Gardner is in charge of arrangements.

10. 1912, in the Sweden community of Douglas County, 'the son: of John and Florence (Simmons) Dye. On Aug 25, 1933 he and Lula May Walker were married. Mr. Dye retired from Mid-Ant Dairies.

Survivors include his wife, Lula, residing in Ozark Nursing and Care Center; three children and their spouses. Pauline and Stanley Brooke. Jerry and Jane Dye. and Donnal and Janei Dye. all of Ozark; seven grandchildren, Ava Hamm.

Beulah Heatherly and Eula Peterson. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Virginia Watkins; two grandsons, Gaiy Ritter and Jerry Brooke; two brothers. Tommy Dye and Henry Dye; and two sisters, Melissa W'elton, and Fila Thurman. A graveside funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec.

Or, it might have to do with the skill to walk from here to there in three inch spike heels and not suffer a broken leg. But, the most important kind of grace that we will ever encounter is the flow of love from God toward us. It is that grace, that flow of love from Gods heart toward us, that seems so compelling to our hearts. It is through His grace that we can find forgiveness. It is through His grace that we find a love so wondrous that it can heal our broken spirits.

A love so strong that it can overcome bitterness, and anger, and fear. A love that is determined to enable us to have peace, and joy, and faith. Yes, it is that grace, that flow of love straight from the heart that compels God to call out to each of us, Come unto me, and I will give you rest.
