July 1—Know Your Neighbor. July 1—Night. July 1—St. Maurice Community. July 2—Kitchen Rookies. Mrs. Bessie Woodruff will be hostess for the Forest Hill Club on July 1 at 2 p. m. Know Your Neighbor Club will meet at 12:30 p. m. on July 1 at the Greensburg City Park. Mrs. Harry Herbert will give the lesson on, "Patio Planning." The July meeting is a pitch-in dinner. Members are to bring a covered dish and their own table service. The beverage will be furnished by the hostesses. The Night Club will meet with Mrs. Anthony Moorman on July 1 at 8 p. m. Mrs. Paul Moorman will give the lesson on "Insect Control." The St. Maurice Community Club will meet at 8 p. m. on July 1 with Mrs. Maurice Brown. Mrs. Ray Colson will be host- Look of Distinction! THAT'S YOU . IN A NEW SUIT FROM HUBER'S ess to the Kitchen Rookies Club on July 2 at 1:30. Mrs. Norma Louden will give the lesson on "Insects." The Tower Tree Club will have their annual picnic meeting at Lake Santee. Members will be called for time and date. Chicken-que Sauce % cup salad oil. % cup lemon juice or cider vinegar. V4 cup water. 1% tablespoons salt. 3 tablespoons sugar. 1% teaspoons tobasco sauce. Measure sauce ingredients into saucepan. Heat to boiling point. Keep hot for basting. Mix thoroughly before each basting. Place chicken on grate. Brush with sauce. Set grate 12 inches or more from heat or glowing coals to cook slowly. Turn and baste frequently. Cook until tender. Just before serving baste with left over sauce. Baked chicken: Place chicken pieces skin side down in shallow baking dish lined with aluminum foil and baste with sauce. Bake in hot oven 450 degrees, about 25 minutes. Reduce heat to 325 degrees. Turn chicken and bake 25-35 minutes longer. Baste often, use all sauce. Enough sauce for 2 or 3 chickens (broilers or fryers).— D. Taylor, Baker's Dozen Club. Ribbon Salad 1—3 ounce package lemon flavored gelatin. 1 envelope unflavored gelatin. % cup cold water. 1—1 pound can fruit cocktail, drained (reserve syrup). % cup syrup.from fruit cocktail. * 1 pint creamed cottage cheese. 1—3 ounce package cherry- flavored gelatin. Ligtitly''Oil £ "9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Prepare lemon flavored gelatin according to package directions. Pour into pan; chill until firm. Soften unflavored gelatin in cold water. Bring fruit cocktail syrup to a boil. Remove from heat and dissolve unflavored gelatin in hot syrup. Stir in cottage cheese. Add fruit cocktail; spread evenly over lemon gelatin.- Chill until firm. Prepare cherry gelatin according to directions. Chill until mixture mounds when dropped from a spoon. Pour over cheese layer. Chill until firm. Unmold on lettuce. Slice and serve with party crackers.—Ritchen Rookies. Applesauce Bread Sift together: 2 cups sifted flour. % cUp sugar. 3 teaspoons baking powder. 1 teaspoon salt. % teaspoon soda. % teaspoon cinnamon. Beat 1 egg into 1% cups applesauce. Add to dry ingredients with 2 tablespoons shortening, melted. Nuts may be added if desired. Bake in loaf pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour. — Roma Cross, Hobby Nobby. Speedy Frosting % cup water. 1 tablespoon light corn syrup. 1 cup sugar. % teaspoon cream of tartar. % teaspoon salt. 1 egg white. 1 teaspoon vanilla. Place water, corn syrup, sugar, cream of tartar and salt in saucepan. Stir over heat Until sugar is completely dissolved. Place egg whites in mixing bowl: Turn speed control on high and whip until egg whites begin to hold shape, about Vz minute. Pour the hot syrup gradually into egg whites in a fine stream. Taking about 1% to 2 minutes. Add vanilla and continue whipping; about 5 minutes or until icing loses its shiny appearance and will stand in stiff peaks. This makes a soft frosting for two 8 or 9 inch layers. For three 8 or 9 inch layers use the following amounts: % cup water, IVz tablespoons light corn syrup, 1% cups sugar, % teaspoon cream of tartar, % teaspoon salt, 2 egg whites and 1% teaspoons vanilla. — Linger A While. Strawberry Frozen Desert 1 pint strawberries. % cup sugar. 1 tablespoon orange juice. % pound marshmallows. ¥i cup water. ' 1 ciip condensed iriilk, type that whips. Wash, stem and crush berries. "(Frozen'cbiBd'be used) Mix" with sugar and orange juice. Let stand 30 minutes. Steam marshmallows with water in top of the double boiler until they reach the liquid stage. Cool, combine with strawberries and fold in the whipped milk. Freeze. Stir several times during the freezing process. — Mrs. Dale Menke- dick, Live and Learn. Lemonade Drop Cookies 1 cup butter. 1 cup sugar. 2 eggs. 3 cups sifted flour. 1 teaspoon soda. 1 6-ounce can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed. Sugar. Cream together butter and 1 cup sugar. Add eggs, beat until light and fluffy. The House, acting by voice vote, Tuesday passed its ver sion of a bill requiring the health labels. Like the measure passed last week by the Senate, it called for a label reading: "Caution: cigarette smoking may, be hazardous to your health:" • • • " A stumbling block between House, and Senate agreement was seen, however, over a provision to bar the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from requiring similar warnings in cigarette advertising. The House version calls for a permanent ban against such warnings while the would forbid FTC only.-three years.
