Besides, the album is a sound blockbuster to give your stereo rig a happy workout.

Baxter at his best is hard to beat. Failing to achieve an over-all unified effect stereophonically is Corals new "Electro-Sonic Orchestra," in which Dick Jacobs conducts an aggregation playing instruments gimmicked to the nth degree electronically. The split is so wide that its too far out. The listener is apt to get lost in such tunes as Volare, Tammy, Hey There, Mack the Knife and Thats My Desire. For the curious, let me warn, I told you so! SANDERS Frank Sinatra returns to the field of ballads.

His newest album, "Sinatra Strings, on his own Reprise label, represents his best recording session in recent years. Backed by the orchestra of Don Costa, who did the arrangements, Sinatra sings some of his songs made hits when he was a teen-age sensation of the early 1940s, 'such as "All or Noth-, ing at All, "Night and Day and "It Might as Well Be Spring. And, the singer finally gets around to doing Erroll Garners more recent classic, Misty, Probably the choicest Is "Stardust, in which Sinatra does only the verse of Hoagy Carmichael immortal tune, an entirely new approach overlooking the perennially favored chorus. Some have complained that the crooner has been on a Ring-a-Ding kick too long. Here is the answer on the slower side.

Johnny Mathis, who reached the top with the ballad, reverses Sinatras decision and "Lives It Up in his new Columbia outing with Nelson Riddle and Orchestra giving him strong, sure support. Mathis turns his unique vocal talents in this, his 18th album, to I Wont Dance, Johnny One Note, "Hey, Look Me Over, Love and "Ace in the Hole. The standout song is the seldom-heard "The Riveria. This makes the album exceptional. RCA Victor trots out some early 1950 recordings of Eddie Fisher to re-issue in an album of "Greatest Hits.

Although Fisher is now occupied as attendant to Elizabeth Taylor, his wife, and by Bob Deering Carnival time in New Orleans is big business. The New Orleans Chamber of Commerce estimates that between $2 and $3 million are spent each year by the more than tions which stage the two-and-a-half month pagent, which, together with its Brazilian counterpart in Rio de Janeiro, will be featured in Carnival Time, on "Walt Disneys Wonderful World of Color scheduled for eolorcasting on March 4th. A conservative average cost of a Mardi Gras ball is $12,000, placing the total cost of the 67 balls at $768,000. There are 18 parades which range in cost from $12,000 to $50,000, depending on the number of floats, decorations, favors and costumes.

HOLLYWOOD In the early days of television, viewers were used to seeing such odd sights as a stage-hand strolling past the window of an airplane that was supposed to be flying high over the ocean, or a tree that had a large wooden stand instead of roots, but today things are much different.

When a script calls for a scene to be shot in an airport it is shot in a real airport; and if that airport is supposed to be in Europe, and the budget wont stand for flying a cast and crew of 50 overseas, then the airport must be built here. Such was the case in the shooting of "View from the Eiffel Tower, the Tuesday, March 13, episode of NBC-TVs Dick Powell Show. The story, which covers a few days in the life of an American gun-runner in Paris, stars Dick Powell, Jane Powell, Bella Darvi and Akim Tamiroff. The climax of the drama takes place at Paris famous Orly Airport. Producer-actor Powell, who allows five days for the filming of each of his hour-long shows, ordered his prop department to turn Burbanks Lockheed Air Terminal into Orly-for-a-day.

Signs Changed There were two main problems controlling the thousands of passengers who daily file through the huge airport, and changing all the English signs into French. Art director Jan Van Tamelen and his crew had to work overtime getting the signs changed. "You have no idea how many signs are around an airport until you have to change them all, said Van. They had to cover the Lockheed Air Terminal sign with one that read "Orly Aeroport, and change the No Smoking signs to read "Defense de Fumer. Other signs, on restrooms, cafes, telephone booths and cabstands had to be changed accordingly.

One big liner from Chicago had just rolled to a stop when the cameras began to roll and uniformed French officers began yelling and firing blanks at the sprinting Powell. An elderly woman who was walking down the ramp from the EQUIPMENT and Supplies plane stopped and stared at the violent actions going on before her eyes. Then she looked up and saw the sign which informed her that she had landed at Orly Aeroport Both Stores S)peim ffonite ontO 6:00, Sunday Looming 9 until (RToon Folding Tables and Chairs You a Mured of gutting th bud at thu lowett prko wlren you daal with Stop ha iROCK ISLAND STORE MOLINE STORE i m. nMdi c. 617 Ninth Street 2006 Sixteenth Street 5 liiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin 305- 20th St R.L 786-0431.
