KOKOMO Bonus baby Buck Nixon was due to hurl tonight here against the Dodgers, as the Quad-City Braves attempt to halt 1-game losing streak and stay in the thick of the Midwest League pennant chase.

The Braves lost the series opener here last night, 6-4, as Kokomo unloaded three home runs. Nixon will be going after his first win in professional basebalL He has started on three previous occasions and has looked good for five innings or so each time before tiring. His record is 0-2. The Braves now are 2H games behind league-leading Waterloo and are lVi behind second-place Dubuque. The Braves will play here again tomorrow night, then will return home for single games against Dubuque Thursday and Friday at Davenport Muny Stadium.

They then will take to the road again for a three-game set at Waterloo. Confusing Game Last nights game was very confusing and very long 3 hours and 13 minutes. The Braves scored a single run in the first inning and added two more in the third for a 3-0 lead. The Dodgers knotted it in the confusing sixth inning. Wally Heckle led off the frame with a single and then George Lago hit what appeared to be a home run over the right field fence.

However, Braves right fielder Vern Agnew claimed the ball had gone through a hole in the fence and therefore should be a ground rule double. Manager A1 Monchak also protested and led the two umpires to the right field wall in order to inspect it. After a consultation, the umpires rolled that the ball had gone through the fence and was, therefore a ground role double. Kokomo Manager Don Domanl-chelli then came onto the scene and argued with the umpires. But after a total of 18 minutes a been consummed, the umpires stuck to their decision that the blow was a ground-rule double.

When play was resumed, Tommy Richards drive in two runs with a double but he was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple. Jerry Webster then laced a homer to tie the score. Heckle and Lago connected for circuit clouts in the seventh to sew up the game for the Dodgers, then scored once more in the eighth. ai'AD-CITIES KOKOMO abrbbl abrbbi Alomar 3b 5 0 0 Daniel soil Haaatab lb 4 1 OHeckel Sill Ganna Sill Lam lb M'Neil lb 1 1 0 R'chrda cf Wieczak 3b SltSKroU 3b Ana'aon cf 1 1 ater lb 110 0 Jones rf 4 0 11 Stubbina 5 0 0 0 Wnlker 2 0 10 Helm'p 0 0 bPedha Fudoli Swan 14 4101 Tetale Struck out ior Helmkamp in 7th Qni4-Cltlen 101 Kebeme 00 001 1100 i KaeeneUb. lbalker PO-A Quad-Citiea 24 1: Kokomo 27-10 DP OMara to Warner to Kern, Webiter to Herkel to Lam (2), Webster to Lago.

What about the boys future in baseball? Sure, Id like to see them make the big time, Rodenberg said. "But if they never make the grade, I just hope they have the fun Ive had in playing baseball and softball for so many years. I wouldnt trade the experience for anything." Rodenberg explains that baseball is sort of a way of life in their household. However, he admits it has a minor drawback such as not being able to eat a real meal at suppertime. Weve had a lot of hot dogs and hamburgers at our house since the season began," he joked.

And what about the boys would they like to play as long as their dad? You bet! they chorused as one. Ask Inquest Into Death Of Gapdel CHICAGO (AP) A coroner inquest was ordered yesterday into the death of Eddie Gaedel, 36, the only midget ever to play major league basebalL Gaedel was found dead in his southside apartment Sunday. The inquest was ordered after a coron ers doctor discovered bruises on both knees and discoloration on the left side of Gaedels face. A short-term member of the St. Louis Browns, Gaedel was dis covered unconscious in his bed Sunday by his Mother. An attempt by a fire department emergency squad to revive him failed.

The 3 foot, 7 inch Gaedel made baseball history and touched off a hilarious dispute when he marched to home plate in Sportsmans Park Ag. 19, 1951, to face a baffled Detroit pitcher. The tiny hitter drew a walk in his one and only appearance at the plate. Bill Veeck, then part-owner of the Browns, said hed sent Gaedel up to hit everytime the Browns loaded the bases. But the threat never materialized, although the Browns didn't load the bases very often anyway.

American League President Will Harridge disapproved his contract in the best interest of baseball." Didnt Conduct Search Rudie Schaffer, then general manager of the Browns and now an executive with the Chicago White Sox, said it was generally believed at the time that the Browns had conducted a search for a "baseball-playing midget. We actually hired him from a threatrical agency, he said. Schaffer recalled that Veeck brought Gaedel into the Browns offices before the game, suited him up and told him how to stand at home plate. When he was in the office, Schaffer said, he batted right-handed. Rodenberg, a first baseman throughout his playing career, has been playing with Bob Powers Tap for the past four seasons. He began playing the sport at the age of 14, but didnt restrict his activities to it alone he also played baseball and was a member of the Clicks team which won the state amateur championship in 1953. Besides all these accomplishments, he also has two others who are now trying to follow in his footsteps. These are his twin sons, Terry and Tod, both 11, who are making names for themselves as members of the Syndicate Hub team in the East Little League. The elder Rodenberg taught both boys to bat and throw.

Todd began as a catcher and first base-man, now he concentrates exclusively on catching. Terry pitches and plays shortstop. Both are lefthanded swingers. Good Seasons All three Rodenbergs are experiencing fine seasons. Dad is hitting at a .330 clip in helping Bob, Powers to hold on to first place in the Davenport League with a 7-1 record.

His usual seasons average is around .250. It must be remembered, however, that softball is much more a pitcher's sport than baseball and a .250 average is considered very good indeed.
