MISTREATMENT OF KIDS BLAMED ON ALCOHOL USE WARSAW (AP) The Communist party newspaper Trybu-na Ludu has bemoaned a growing consumption of alcohol in Poland and said drinking is re sponsible for many of the 7000 cases a year in which parents are sentenced for mistreatment of their children It said about 60 per cent of the sentences are suspended Blows Tube Group Meets (Vermont Press Bureau) $16015 First Day of Educational System Marred by Small Mishap Resumes Soon (Vermont Press Bureau) BURLINGTON The Vermont Educational Television network got off to a bad start on its first day of broadcasting here Monday it blew a tube Network manager Odell Skinner said late Monday however that a replacement tube was ordered Dean Raymond Phillips of the University of Vermont in Burlington said that regular programming resumed at 6:30 pm The network did not experience any other technical difficulties and signed off on schedule at 10 pm Phillips said Actually we will be testing with our regular programs for two weeks and this was a normal mechanical malfunction he added The only channel scheduled for broadcast lylonday was WETK-TV (Channel 33) which beams its signal from atop Mt Mansfield The networks other three channels in Rutland St Johnsbury and at Mt Ascutney near Windsor are scheduled to begin broadcasting sometime in November The networks studios are located on the Ethan Allen campus of the University of Vermont in Colchester-Essex might consider hiring a fulltime executive director whose salary would be paid with part of the federal money Da'ey meanwhile said that if federal funds were not available the governor should request them from the Emergency Board Most of Mondays discussions among the members representing the various law enforcement and institutional agencies throughout the state centered on the direction the committee should take in approaching the problem of crime and crime prevention in the state It was generally accepted that the commission should follow the guidelines set forth by President Lyndon Johsnons Crime Commission which has published various books and pamphlets on the subject Among the items discussed at Mondays meeting included: The need for more law enforcement training More coordination between the various law enforcement agencies and rehabilitation and corrections institutions Expanded public safety James Oakes Oakes said the commission Firebomb Try Charge Two Bennington Men Deny Arson Attempt During Globe-Union Strike BENNINGTON (Special) -Two men appeared in Bennington District Court Monday on charges in connection with firebombing" at a strike at the Globe-Union plant here earlier this month Donald Lever 36 of Bennington was charged with attempting to set fire to a company truck on Aug 13 Edward LaBarge 32 of North Bennington was accused of being an accessory to attempted arson Both men denied the charges Lever posted $500 bail and La-Barge was released in bail of $200 Law officials charged that during a United Auto Workers strike at the Globe-Union plant there were attempted fire-bombings States Atty John Carmody Jr brought the charges Atty John Harte represented Lever and Atty
