This official title attached to the name of a gentleman would go far toward crushing a subordinate officer, but, preceded by James Marr and his silly, vindictive letter, could hardly convict a man of swearing to a The clause in my affidavit which so tirs the ire of this doughty knight in the revenue service, was as follows He farther swears, that he never proposed to Supervisor Marr to make a report on Speer's claims investigation, nor did he propose anything of a fraudulent or improper nature, or hat said supervisor oould construe "To be improper, and that he believes said indorsement was wilfully and maliciously made by said Supervisor Marr." "Coming events cast their shadows before." The progressive genius of Amerioaa institutions demands that every acre of the public domain every rod of land between the two oceans, the gulf and British America shall be under the undisputed control and protection of this Government. In accordance with this sentiment, a move is being made in Congress to incorporate the Indian country south of Kansas into an organized Territory.

The idea has assumed shape through the introduction of a bill by Mr Cnllom, of Ohio, for the organization of Indian Territory." This tract of country, ome 70,000 square miles in area, embraces a large extent of the most desirable country within the limits of the republic. The greater portion of it is occupied by several large and influential Indian tribes, the most notable of which are tbe Cherokee, wliOfe rights it would be difficult to contest, and whose consent to the proposed arrangement it is desirable to secure. Still, by treaties with tbesa Indian tribes, some thirty oiilhoni of acres of this country, or fully one-half of the Territory, have been ceded to the United States, and have become part of the public domain, which is sufficient to justify a Territorial organization, without any pretense or ne-06ity fur disinheriting the Indians holding possession of the remainder. As the result aimed at by Mr. Cullom's bill is a part of the manifest destiny" of this O'ulry, nothing can counteract and not a revenue tax at all.
