Aluminum Made Possible Through Discovery Of Electrolytic Proc'ess thode (minus). The vat is then filled with a cryolite (or bauxite) solution When the current is turned on the aluminum particles in the solution, being positive charged, are attracted to the lining of the vat and the oxygen escapes at the top The aluminum being molten and heavier than the rest of the solution, sinks to the bottom of the vat, whereupon it is tapped off and allowed to solidify. Molten aluminum oxide is used in the commercial preparation of gems The widely advertised white sapphires are nothing more than the pure oxide. By adding small percentages of other metallic oxides different hues are obtained, and through this method such gem stones as the yellow and blue sapphires, ruby and oriental amethyst are manufactured These synthetic jewels are almost identical In properties and composition with the natural gems.

"The German law is very carefully drawn, and is better than those of most of the 27 American states which have such laws. The success of any such law Is, of course, mainly a matter of administration. It must be administered conservatively, sympathetically, and intelligently. The Human Betterment Foundation has for years been studying the workings of California's sterilization law which, consistently used for a quarter of a century, has resulted in operations on nearly 10,000 patients in the hospitals of the state. "Many feeble-minded persons in the community are too old to benefit from sterilization the report continues.

Others are of such low levels, or so irresponsible and emotionally warped, that they cannot be safely left at large In the community even after sterilization. For such, life-long sterilization with separation of the sexes is the only safeguard. "There are many others, however, who, if subjected to a simple surgical operation which pi events parenthood without unsexing the individual, could play a useful part in the community if It weie certain they wouia leave no children to in-liout their handicaps and he a hur-tUn to the next gtriuiuion CHILD HEALTH CLASS PLANNED GRIDLEY Application for funds to establish a class here for the health bihlding of pre-school children of needy families, who are suffering from malnutrition, under the new national child health recovery administration, has been made through Jay Partridge, Butte county superintendent of schools, it was announced today by Cam, superintendent of Gndley elementary schools Children from two to six years of age will be enrolled in the class spending five mornings a week in instructive play and pre-school educative work and receiving a nutn-tive hot meal at noon.
