14 Parsons Sun Thursday Oct 19 1989 Routine traffic stop leads to arrests Drug czar receptive to Hayden's proposals Two stolen vehicles recovered Two alleged car thieves might have got away with their crime if it for a burned out headlight and a vigilant police officer Just after midnight Parsons police officer Jeff Kinsler stopped a car at 16th and Thornton that had a burned out headlight said Assistant Police Chief Gary Baldwin Further investigation revealed that Davis Wcsterficld 20 Cherry-vale was driving with a revoked license Kinsler also learned that the car a 1981 Oldsmobilc was stolen from Debby residence 244 Stone sometime after 8:45 pm Wednesday And after further questioning of Westcrficld while it was parked behind the Eagles Club in the city He said Hamilton at one point saw the truck east of Cherryvale and gave chase but could not catch up with the vehicle Wcsterficld was arrested for driving with a revoked license two counts of felony theft and being a felon in possession of a firearm Baldwin said Wcsterficld had prior convictions Parsons police also arrested hclly Goodscll 21 Cherryvale a passenger in the stolen Oldsrno-bilc In addition to felony theft be making arrangements for Bennett to sec some drug facilities including the new youth drug treatment center in Wichita and to have Bennett visit with law enforcement officials from around the state at a news conference that while he agrees with the concept of tobacco-free schools his general philosophy is such legislation is better left to local and state officials He indicated he would be reluctant
