It was the first time the government has put controls on a sector of the economy previously exempted. The effect of the action is to all manufacturing, wholesale and retail businesses with annual lumber sales of more than $100,000 a year back under controls. Now Leads 2-1 Spassky Resigns 3rd Chess Game REYKJAVIK (AP) World chess champion Boris Spassky resigned the third game against Bobby Fischer today five minutes after the clock was switched on to resume their adjourned game. Referee Lothar Schmid opened Fischer's sealed move. It was bishop to queen six. Fischer was not in sight. Spassky waited only minutes, and knocked over his king, giv- ing the game to Fischer.

The score in the 24-game match now stands at 2-1 in Spassky's favor. Spassky had lost his first game ever to Fischer. The Russian had been playing white, which gave him a slight advantage. Fischer's sealed move had been predicted as the winning move by all grandmasters watching the game. Wall Street Today NEW YORK (AP) Late stock prices: Last Net Chg.

"She is someone of stature young blacks can look to for leadership and inspiration." The young Kansas delegate talked with Mrs. Chisholm in the candidate's hotel suite before the balloting Wednesday night.

They had a visit of about 10 minutes after a warm hug from the New Yorker upon their introduction. Among others, Denise also had a visit from Marlo Thomas is Danny's daughter and a delegate from Miss Thomas came into the Kansas delegation as the seating of California delegates was hotly debated. She was one of those unseated. How did Denise vote on the various controversies? She voted to add women to the South Carolina delegation. "It was a women's issue," she said simply.

The Parsons girl's vote, was cast with the majority the Kansas delegation in opposing the seating of McGovern delegates from California and also on the unseating of Mayor Richard J. Daley of Chicago, although the latter was not on a formal roll call. "There's a long explanation for each vote," the girl noted, and a visitor gained the impression that she was casting her lot at the convention with Gov. Docking and anti-McGovern forces in the Kansas delegation for the sake of following their leadership in the state for more than any other reason. For an 18-year-old girl swimming in the excitement of a national political convention as a delegation and winning attention of newsmen from The Associated Press, CBS and others, Denise naturally thought the convention coverage was "great." Lew Ferguson, Topeka correspondent of the AP, wrote a special on Denise, carried in Sun and other newspapers Tuesday.

She was interviewed by the national television network during the proceedings. Ferguson described her as "black, pretty, intelligent and highly articulate" and 1 independent enough to cross up political professionals in the convention. Two pages of the Sunday magazine of the Topeka CapitalJournal were devoted to Denise's convention trip, including photographs in color. Denise was elected a 5th Dis- trict alternate to convention and moved to the delegate's role when Mrs. Betty Tullis of Bartlett, elected to the seat, was injured in a fall a short time before the convention.

The girl is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Creo Edison, 1305 Morton. And oh, yes! What about the beaches in Miami Beach? "I got Denise laughed, "and my shoulders are beginning to peel." Laird Aims Dig At McGovern WASHINGTON (AP) Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird suggested today the Democratic presidential nominee, George McGovern, agreed to support the Air Force's "the F15 jet fighter plane as price for getting Sen.

Thomas Eagleton as his running mate. Eagleton is from Missouri where the F15 is being built by McDonnell-Douglas Corp. of St. Louis. As president, McGovern has said he would scrap the F15 in favor of development of a less costly lightweight fighter.

At a Pentagon news conferLaird said: "I am led to believe, however, that perhaps the vice-presidential candidate in part of his agreement to run was able to get a modification of that position." Laird noted that the F15 is the first weapons system developed under new contracting procedures instituted during his administration for which he claimed "complete and total responsibility as secretary of Defense." "St. Louis is known as Phantomtown, U.S.A., and it will be known as Eagletown, U.S.A.," Laird quipped with a play on words and Eagleton's name. The F15, dubbed the Eagle by the Air Force at its rollout last month, is intended to replace the F4 Phantom-workhorse plane in Vietnam -which is also built by McDonnell-Douglas in St. Louis. "There is no Pentagon withdrawal whatsoever from Vietnam. "American units are simply moving to other positions," commentator Vitaly Korionov wrote in the Soviet Communist party newspaper. He said the missions of troops removed from Vietnam were being assumed by U.S. forces in other parts of the Pacific area.

"But the courageous Vietnamese people and patriots of Laos and Cambodia have inexhaustible will for victory," the article continued.
