7. A cleanup of 5 tons from the King Solomon recently yielded a brick amount to $4,200. 'The raise on the 265 foot level of the King Solomon 175 feet east of the Butte shaft hag been abandoned entirely, as bad ground wag encountered. Another raise has been commenced on the 250-foot level and work is being done with all possible speed. Several men are busy on the 250-foot level, others are starting an upraise from the 100-foot level and several men are sinking from the surface.

A strong vein of $100 ore was encountered in the new upraise 15-feet from the bottom of the 250 foot level. Several tons of this ore were extracted in the last few days and the vein is getting richer all the time. Good Hope Ore extraction continues with pleasing regularity on the Good Hope. A ciew of men are busy drifting and sloping on the 175, 235 and 300 foot levels, which three levels are making a good showing. Fifteen tons of ore are on the dump.

Leasing on the Confidence L. W. Livengood and Arthur McClure have leased the Confidence mine, a property adjoining the Mag-ganetta on the north, both owned by T. B. Petersen and A.

F. Dejdrick. Livengood and McClure are at present engaged in sinking to recover the ledge which yielded a fair tonnage of ore, averaging $350 per ton. Petersen and Dejdrick are successfully working the Magganetta and have several tons of ore on the dump. A tremendously important offering, coming as it does just in time for the holidays.

Every one of these suits and coats are this seasons newest. The suits include blue, black and brown serges, lined with guaranteed satin. All sizes to be had, but we suggest you come early and get first choice. SHIPnEY BELLS THE LEHMAN MINING ACTIVE ON THE DESERT (Special Correspondence of Echo.) RANDSBURG, Dee. 7.

C. J. Lehman, of Los Angeles, secured a half interest from Ed Shipsey in the King Solomoa. The purchase price could not be learned, hut it is said to be a good round. Since buying the King Solomon about Bix months ago, Ed Shipsey has realized a handsome profit from this property.

The ore that has been extracted from this mine in the last six months has netted more than tae purchase price alone. Ck-Lypps Lease Cook and Lypps haTe shipped 32 tons from their King Solomon lease to the Red Dog mill for treatment. The ore was extracted from the 250 foot level and will average about $50 per ton. Ore Struck on Ajax The tunnel on the Ajax which as driven about 110 feet into the mountain by the leasers, Alfred, Jack and Charles Hallford, and J. A.

McIntyre, connected with the ore shoot recently, which yielded several tons of high grade ore on top of the mountain. The vein at present is only small, but will in crease in value fnd size with a little development work. Teagle-Lamberson Lease A gold brick of $1300 was the result of a cleanup from 23 tons cf ore from the Teagle-Lambereoa on the King Solomon. T'ii3 ore was extracted from the raise on the 110 foot level and is Letter in grade than the ore from the last milling. China Borax Lake Chas.

Churchill and J. Y. Anderson recently left for Chint Borax I ske to thoroughly sample the brine of this lake. Ed and Charles Churchill have extensive holdings of potash on these lakes. Tests gave most favorable returns and conclusively showed the presence of potash in commercial quantities.

Wolframite in Jawbone Reports were received here recently of a wolframite strike in Jawbone Canyon, 25 miles west of Randsburg. Wolframite is a tungsten mineral extensively mined in Boulder county, Colorado. The tung sten deposits of this mining district are exclusively gcheelite and the discovery of wolframite, therefore, comes as a surprise. Investigations brought to light the fact that the strike mentioned is still of little importance, the vein being very small. Sul sequent development work may, perhaps, disclose larger deposits.

L. Stewart and H. H. Welsh were here yesterday for the purpose of conferring with the producers of low-gravity oil in anticipation that the agency offer would be rejected was discredited last evening by St. Clair, vho said that he came here to look at some Weed Patch land in which he is interested, and he took Stewart and Welsh along to show- them some first-class farming country.

St, Clair has some land at the southern end of the Weed Patch country, but in all the years that he lived in Bakersfield he has never been out through the mesa. Yesterday the oil men went down as far as the Tupman well and were astonished at the wealth of water in evidence and at the richness and promt ise of the land. St. Clair confessed also that he made liis first visit to Wasco lot very -long ago and was surprised to see the productiveness and evidence of prosperity there. The head of the agency was more ready to talk farming than oil last evening, but eaid that the future of the oil industry looks encouraging and they hope to see a change for the better within a few months.

He fell far short, however, of Colonel Spellacys optimism. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Edward Hyatt has an interesting story concerning Bakersfield and Kern county in the current number of the Western Journal of Education. While Hyatt was in Kern he made an extended trip through the oil fields, and in his article he has no little to say of the wonderful oil resources of the county and of the great gushing wells. Bakersfield Is given some W'arrn wrdstf praise, and the schools of the city and county and the work of City Superintendent Nelson and Cdunty Superintendent Stockton Is commended. PARTS WITH -PROPERTY OVER WHICH HE HAD A BATTLE LAST WINTER (Special' CoiTespoB.dencer"oi Echo RANDS Dec. 7.

-The salt claims at Kane Springs, the ownership of which was in dispute and gave rise to a lively battle on the dry lake last January, have again changed hands. Charles Koehn, the original locator, made the acquaintance of Thomas Thordkildsen during the trial in the local justice court, which case was the result of the guu fight over the ownership of the claims. Koehn sold his claims to Tborkildsen shortly afterward who in turn recently disposed of them to the Diamond gait Company of Los Angeles. These salt claims are situated near Kane Springs, 25 miles west of Randsburg. The Diamond Salt Company will mine the salt deposits on an extensive Beale and ship it to the Los Angeles refinery for treatment.

The salt la of excellent quality and almost absolutely pure. The sale brine of the lake Is pumped into evaporating tanks near the lake, bo-lar evaporation being used solely for its separation and recovery. The young orange trees east of town are reported to be standing the cold wave that has struck the valley in a very creditable manner, although the temperature has been low for this time of year. F. J. Coddington of the Hendry ranch stated that it is not their plan to wrap any of their young trees this year. By cutting the trees back a little earlier in the season and ceasing to irrigate by the latter part of August It is found that the tree growth is retarded and they become hardened and are thus in shape to resist cold weather although it should become quite severe.
