Tom Connally (D Tex) today opened senate debate on the Atlantic Pact with a plea for swift approval as "unmistakable proof" that free nations will stand gether against attack In the treaty he said "the free nations of the North Atlantic area lay before the nations of the world a noble declaration that no armel aggressor no swaggering conquetror no military despot shall invade the North Atlantic area" pp a Then he gave up The site which the Santa Rosa veterans memorial committee requested the supervisors to sell two weeks ago after the committee had decided to abandon it was purchased by the board at the request of the committee in June 1946 The price was $30000 The site is an undeveloped three-acres running through the middle of a Santa Rosa residential block bounded by Ridgeway avenue and Benton street and by Glenn and Morgan streets The site as a location for a veterans' memorial building had drawn vigorous objections for the past six months Following the unsuccessful auction Mr Kennedy was asked what the board would do about the site since no purchaser had appeared He answered "I don't know what we are going to do We'll have to wait and see what the board decides" grees
