COUNTY AGENT SEES NEW SHERMAN MILK PLANT IN OPERATION The now Meadowlake Milk Products plant at Sherman has created a lively interest in high class cows and this was evident in the prices at the 21st semi-annual auction sale of the Grayson County Live Stock association Friday, attended by Henry Gentry, Navarro county agent, Mr. Gentry went with the idea of making some purchases for some interested Navar.o county farmers but he did not find at the sale the individuals he wanted. The general range of prices was rather high and the bidding was spirited, explained Mr, Gentry.

The first batch of registered heiferi? and cows sold at from $130 to $200 While in Sherman Mr. Gentry made an inspection of the new milk plant and brought back with him some of the powdered milk and butter being produced by this plant. The plant makes three grades of butter and a sweet cream mix for ice cream and other commercial purposes. Mr. Gentry said that he found the farmers on the whole very w'ell pleased with the market offered by the milk products plant and that the milk production in Grayson county was being increased very rapidly.

As an example of what a farmer could do with a whole milk market he told of the case of a farmer living seven miles from Sherman milking ten cows, carrying a total of about fifteen cows in his herd, with several choice heifer calves. This farmer was receiving a milk check each two weeks of about $127.50 and after deducting for feed and labor costs he found he was making a profit I of about per week His milk tested 4.9rper cent butter fat. CU PRAISED FDR IIS HANDLING RECENT CONVENTION BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL CONVENTION HERE GREATEST IN HISTORY, CLAIMED The recent State Baptist Sunday School convention held in Corsicana, with the First Baptist church as host church; the Rev.

J. Howard Williams as pastor, and Papl B. Harper as general chairman, was conceded by many attending the sessions as being the best convention ever held of that body. Among other letters of praise and thanks for the great convention and entertainment received here, the following will be of interest, as well as the statement by the Rev. Howard Williams, pastor of the First Baptist church here.

Dr. Williams has received the following, which is self-explanatory and interesting, from Rev. T. Holcomb, pastor of the First Baptist church of Sherman, hosts to the convention next year: SHERMAN, Texas, April 20, 1928. Rev, J.

Howard Williams, Corsicana, Texas. Dear Friend: I want to send this word of congratulation to you and your coworkers on the way you handled the convention. It was the greatest system carried out in the most perfect way I. have ever seen. Corsicana certainly did her part in helping to make it the greatest Sunday School Convention, Texas Baptists have ever had.

May I ask of you and Brother Harper that you write out your plan of organization in caring for the convention? The names and number of committees, number of homes required and any other information that you think would be helpful to us next year. I thought it would be easier for you to outline it now than later. We would also appreciate any suggestions you may make as a result of your experience. All of us rejoice over the way God is blessing you in your work. Sincerely, L.

HOLCOMB. Mr, Williams stated today that communications which he has already received from people who attend the convention, expressing their praise of Corsicana for the manner in which the convention was handled. Ho further stated that before the people had left Corsicana, they were out-spoken in their congratulations, many voicing the opinion that the convention was the best handled of any which they had attended. The praise, he said, was not for the church alone, but for the city and the citizenship in general. Mr Williams asked for the opportunity to make the following statement through these columns: "To the people of Corsicana: I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your most generous help in caring for our recent convention.

As a church, we are indebted to you and as citizens, we are prouder of Corsicana. It is a real temptation for me to try to mention the many who helped but that would be a very difficult, if not impossible, task. We are grateful that Corsicana realized this was a task for the entire citizenship and I tell you the people left singing the praises of our city. Many told me they had never attended a convention so well handled nor visited the citv with more generous and genuine hospitality. Such a spirit as has been expressed the past week in caring for two large conventions, will enable us to build a great city.

Spirit is the biggest thing about a city. With such a spirit, we can do any- think we undertake. Again, we thank J. HOWARD WILLIAMS. Corsicana Gets Publicity.

Corsicana received state wide publicity through many chaneis during this week because of the Rotary and Sunday School conventions, it was pointed out at the Chamber of Commerce Monday morning. At a noticeable feature of this favorable publicity it was explained that the Baptist Standard, official publication of organized Baptists of Texas, with a circulation of 21,000 in the homes of the Southwest, dedicated its entire issue prior to the Sunday School convention to Corsicana. The cover page of the Standard was devoted to pictures of Corsicana, including cuts of the Navarro county court house, State National Bank building. Municipal building, Navarro Hotel and high school. This attractive cover page lay-out was furnished by the publicity department of the local Chamber.

Inside pages oi the convention issue of the Standard gave prominence to J. Howard Williams, pastor of the First Baptist church of Corsicana, and Paul Harper, educational director and arrangements chairman, and used cuts of the First Methodist church, First Baptist church and the First Christian churchy LEATHER PURSES, newest in bag und under-arm styles Book Store, FARMERS OE COUNTY WILLING MILK MANY COWS WITH MARKET Preliminary totals of the first batch of questionnaires in the Navarro county dairy survey being conducted by the agricultural committee of the Corsicana Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the agricultural department of the Southern Pacific lines, Thursday showed that 191 farmers were willing, with a steady (vhole milk market, to milk a total of 1183 cows, an average of about six cows each. These questionnaires represented farmers in the following communities: Kerens, Blooming Grove. Frost, Purdon, Pickett, Roane, Dawson. Black Hills, Corbet, Oil Ridge, Chapel, Rice and Eureka.

The survey in the county is attracting considerable interest and is being made possible largely through the splendid cooperation given by the Kerens Chamber of Commerce. the bankers of the county and a number of interested farmers who are working with the Corsicana Chamber. Some of the school principals of the county are also giving substantial help. It is hoped to complete Rice Schools to Close May 28th PTE, April 23. The Rice public schools close on Friday, May 2e, with the graduating x- er- tor held at the school auditorium or that evening.

There are only four members of the graduating class this year, three boys and one girl. They are Grafton Goodwyn, Sherman Allen Miles, Cecil Hobbs and Martha Simpson. the survey within the next two weeks. The purpose of the survey is to determine accurately the number of cows in the county and particularly the number of cows that farmers would be willing to milk with a satisfactory market and also determine the number of farmers interested in joining bull circles which will be organized in connection with the dairy program. Experience in other dairy sections has shown conclusively that the type of cows must be of a high grade to be profitable and formation of bull circles results in higher grades at a minimum of expense, according to the agricultural committee.

Future plans for the development of dairy interest in Navarro county will depend to a considerable extent on the information derived through the county survey. There is Only One FRIGID AIRE. Its a product of General Motors. C. R.
