took them to Canada and return They visited popular resorts along the way and spent a day or two at Crater Lake Mr and Mrs Alter and their little daughter Susan arrived from San Francisco to visit at the Wasserman home Mrs Alter being the former Miss Jane Wasserman Little Miss Alter remained in Santa Rosa with her maternal grandmother while her parents spent part of their holiday vacation in the river Family Celebrates Holidays at Wasserman Home The family of Mrs Milton Wasserman had a happy weekend with visitors from San Francisco and friends who stopped to greet them while passing through Santa Rosa The highlight of holidays was the return of Mr and Mrs Jack Berger (Ruth Wasserman) Mr Berger and his bride of Members of Church Circle to Meet Wife Mrs David Kimmel president of Circle 2 of the Methodist Aid Society will entertain the members tomorrow afternoon at her home 900 Beaver street Mrs Homer Bodley wife of the new pastor of the church will be present to make the acquaintance of the members of Circle 2 and Mrs Carl Lehman will attend the meeting to direct the devotional period BETTY RIDLEY ENGAGED TO JEAN HARPER GUESTS AT GIFT PARTIES LEARN Telephone 777 639 Fourth Street Elsie Perkins is the granddaughter of the late Mr and Mrs Douglas Badger prominent residents of Rincon Valley and she is a niece of Mrs Sam Strong A graduate of the public schools of Santa Rosa the bride-elect also attended Junior College and graduated with the June class Mr Harper son of Captain Bruce Harper of Santa Monica and Mrs Edward Hagadorn of San Francisco is also a graduate of the local Junior College He has been living in Sebastopol at the summer home although he spends part of the time in San Francisco with his mother Definite plans for the wedding have not been made but friends anticipate an early culmination to the romance that started on the local Junior College campus Smashing JULY Matilda Allison Marries Palo Alto Man Miss Matilda Allison former well known Napa woman and Edgar Williams of Palo Alto were united in marriage at a quiet wedding in All Saints Episcopal Church in Palo Alto last Saturday afternoon The Rev Oscar Green officiated at the wedding which was witnessed by a few close friends The bride is widely known for her welfare work among the blind among exservice men in San Quentin and for the Red Cross She has been blind for forty years When she graduated trjrn thd-California School for the Blind at Berkeley in 1909 she was class valedictorian and was said by the head of the school to be the brighest member of the group Mrs Williams became an accurate and rapid typist learned 2000 medical terms to qualify as a clinical dictaphone operator at tire Napa State Hospital and mastered both the Braille system and the deaf and dumb speaking manual Red Cross Braille When the Red Cross organized a 1 Braille transcription class at Napa she was asked to take charge She has taught blind exsoldiers at the Home in Napa sent messages in Braille to blind' prisoners at San Quentin and once took a 50-mile'vjourney into the Trinity County octogenarian to read Braille In 1919 she won first place in a civil service examination for dictaphone operator and typist 1 She belongs to the Auxiliary of the American Legion On her return in 1927 from the first gathering of World War veterans in Paris she met Sir Thomas Lipton at that time on his way to America to make another unsuccessful attempt to lift the Cup He became her warm admirer and made two trips to Napa to visit her One Christmas he sent her a large package of tea and another year cabled Christmas greetings from London Miss Dog She also numbers Helen Keller among her friends and was guided for a time by Miss Seeing-Eye dog Miss Allison and Mr Williams met in 1917 when the latter was a member of the state civil service commission He was appointed to the original commission in 1913 by Governor Johnson and served as president three years He was also deputy real estate commissioner for two and a half years in charge of the San Francisco office and held positions with the state treasurer at Sacramento in the Los Angeles office After his retirement in 1932 he went to Palo Alto to live Before coming to California in 1910 he was in the newspaper business in New Jersey He served his state as a legislator and officer for nine years Mt Jackson Climb For Trails Club Sierra Group Here The Redwood Empire Trails 'Club will climb Mt Jackson near Rionido next Sunday ac-jcording to an announcement made by Goodhue who will lead the trip Members will assem-ible at the public library at Fourth and streets at 8:30 I a and proceed to the scene of the outing They will devote the morning to walking to the lookout station on top of ithe mountain and in the after-jnoon will enjoy swimming at 'one of the nearby river beaches i A tour for the bicycle group has been arranged for Friday evening of this week and the tour has been routed through Stony Point road Todd road jLudwig Bellevue and Dutton ave-nues Participants will meet at the Santa Rosa Library at 6:30 and proceed over the outlined course under the guidance of Jeffrey Noel A bicycle tour was enjoyed last Friday evening through Sonoma avenue and Rincon Valley The holiday weekend gave the Trails Club its largest and most successful hiking tour and permitted participation by San Francisco Bay and Loma Prieta Jose-Palo-Alto) chapters of the Sierra Club for a three-day outing at Anchor Bay on the Mendocino coast Anchor Bay Camp Use of a beautiful private camp-site was given the clubs by Pierce proprietor of Anchor Bay Camp The site was a five-acre meadow entirely surrounded by fir trees which afforded a marine view yet had full protetcion from the wind Approximately 125 persons and 38 automobiles used the camp yet there was room to spare James Barbour of the Sierra Club arranged a Saturday evening camp fire entertainment acting as master of ceremonies while skits comic songs and a short historical sketch of the district were given The historical data was provided by Alfred Tully of the Trails Club Antone Trigeiro president of the Trails Club welcomed the visitors to their first outing with the Redwood Empire group A magnificent fireworks display was held on the beach Sunday evening under the direction of the proprietor of the camp Visit Ghost Resort A caravan of about 60 hikers and 16 automobiles journeyed to Signal Ridge on Sunday and from there hiked down to the Point Arena Hot Springs a ghost resort on the north bank of the Garcia river about 14 miles from the mouth William Carr and Alfred Tully of the Trails Club conducted the short hike about four miles The ghost resort consisted of a four-story hotel dance hall and about a dozen cabins all of unpainted rustic split timber siding and shake roofs and built in virgin timberland A quarter of a mile up stream by trail the hot springs bubble along the river bank from a rock ledge They have been prepared for bathing treatments for rheumatism and other ailments The Sunday hikers bathed in the warm waters and swam in a deep pool in the river which was about 80 yards long and 20 wide After the swim and a luncheon the group started the ascent up the slope to the top of Signal Ridge to visit Signal Ridge fire lookout a 62-foot steel tower located on the timber-covered crest An unique feature of the ridge is the growth of redwoods Douglas fir yellow pine sugar pine madrone and tan oaks growing together and at elevations ranging from one to two thousand feet This combination of growth is said to be most unusual yet can be found within six
