Appeal-Democrat Marysville-Yuba City, California Phone SHerwood 2-6491 Friday, June 6, 1958 4- Famed Dancers Become Wallfldwers At Parties I never will understand. Of course, Im not alone on this fight little non-dancing Island. Every girl I know who is known as a dancer on the screen has the same problem. And so do the men. Occasionally when Fred Astaire and I attend the same party, he will ask me to dance.

And what happens? Suddenly we discover we are doing a solo. Everyone has dropped off to the sidelines to watch. The awful part is that we both know wa are terrific disappointments to our audience because we just dance and arent half as sharp at the sambas or tangoes as most of the non-professional guests present Actually, men dancers have more of a problem than toe girls. Occasionally they are almost forced to ask a girl to dance and, unless they go in for a few fancy spins, their partners are shattered. But let them try to slip in an extra glide or two and what happens? Several days later they are shocked to learn that they are considered dance-floor show-offs.

Its the best way I know' to stay out of he limelight at any party when the music starts and the beat begins. Its perfectly silly but dancing on the screen is like smallpox to a social career. All eligible partners consider the girl who has been billed as a dancer a pro and as such, completely out of their class.

This is ridiculous. What Mr. Average Man doesnt realize is that dancing for the screen is very different from dancing for pleasure at a night club or a private social gathering. There is one decided advantage to buying your roses in containers and that is that you can actually see them in bloom. This way there is no doubt in your mind as to color and type of blossom, Mrs. Earl Kay of Meridian recently showed me a group planting of red roses which she had planted for a hedge and they have the appearance of being the wrong type for such a purpose. I believe she sent for them and no doubt a mistake was made in filling her order. Had she selected them in bloom here would have been no.confusion.

When Champ Butler was opening car doors, for Ava Gardner, Lana Turner and other nlghtdubbers he wasn't earning much maybe $60 a week but his bills were paid. Today he's going through bankruptcy proceedings.

No Money, No Luxury As Butler explained it to the court's bankruptcy referee. You can't continue to live as high when the money isn't coming in as you learned to live when it poured in. But Butler also says that he feels his debts totaling $18,000 are a moral obligation and it is his intention to pay creditors every penny. Butler said he got into debt the usual way, poor financial management and then a bad year. I made the normal mistakes.

And I did a little gambling. But nothing serious. Got Break in 1W1 In 1951 got my break and began to earn between $50,000 and $100,000 a year," he continued. But I was paying out 40 per cent of my salary in commissions.
