maybe its just an addiction in a chapter called Getting Ourselves Together he provides guidelines for getting out an addictive situation and better still how to prevent the situation in the first place The concluding chapter From Addiction to Love reveals how to obtain a mature love relationship after first finding ones self He concludes with six rules for relationships between lovers applicable also to those already in a marriage situation Dr Peel ends his book with this advice: And fi- This is not to say that sexual infatuation is not as sound a reason as any other to be drawn to someone Intensity of attraction is a beautiful thing But to mislabel it love is both foolish and dangerous What love requires on top of instant emotion is time' shared experiences and feelings and a long and tempered bond between two people In his bode Dr Peele explores the true nature of addiction stressing its psychological not physiological base both in $20 million epic has Us troubles Telatrons ta drugs and ter naHy -take it easy Ho one By JEAN JERNIGAN I-G Staff Writer So you think youre in love? Better think twice You may be an addict Drugs are not alone in causing addiction Actually drugs alone do not cause addiction it is what lies within the person taking the drugs or being in love that predisposes (Hie to addiction So thinks Dr Stanton Peele who with Archie Brodsky has written Love and Addiction to be published May 7 by Taplinger -Publishing Company Newwi York Dr Peele currently an assistant professor teaching organizational behavior at Harvard Business School received his BA from the University of Pennsylvania and his PhD from the University of Michigans Social Psychology program His new book has been selected by Psychology Today Book Club and excerpts will appear in Cosmopolitan magazine in August Asked what motivated him to write the book Dr Peele said Ive always been intrigued by drugs and intoxicated states Ive done a lot of ruminating on what really minds people call out nated gether the love Using a number of case histories as examples the doctor reveals growing-up situations and marriage situations predisposed to addiction in love All is not negative however Dr Peele also presents positive situations and relationship can give you life or take it away from you Dont worry about anything you do or dont do If you live and grow your commitment is to live and love comes in that same spirit love that is a joyous desire to share all that is best in yourself and others DR STANTON PEELE Love and Addiction author goes on in peoples particularly when relate intensely and it love Then it burns there is nothing no relationship One no longer satisfies derstanding of things Dr Peele writes: Addiction is an unstable state of being marked by a compulsion to deny all that you are and have been in favor of some new and ecstatic ex is true throughout the rest of the Moslem world too The excitement over the film permeates the Mideast The Moslems are eagerly awaiting this first large -scale movie made expressly for them Ansara says the film should make a profit there and anything it earns throughout the rest of the world will be gravy He says it should be big here too because it is an immense film with battle scenes featuring thousands of extras something the American screen has not seen in some years But it isnt easy working over there Ansara says there were a few days in Morocco when the temperature hit 150 degrees It feels as though your brain is frying he says If somebody asks your name you have to really give the question some deep thought before you can answer You keep drinking water yet you perspire so much you never have to go to the bathroom For his scene during that warm spell he was clad in a Both these areas fasci- perience Love at first sight me and came to- has much in common with in my thinking and immediate addiction Nevertheless to guard against any possible adverse reaction Akkad has hired many English Jews purple robe He says that in both as actors and in his 10 minutes the purple had crew He also has Moslem A wine therapy program in a nursing home in Iowa has revealed some significant health benefits of wine The program was initiated at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown two years ago and has been a resounding success Some of the results according to Dr Robert Gray the medical director are: Major cutbacks in medication The doctor Gray Weve been careful to establish the proper atmosphere too because without that socialization goes down the drain The atmosphere consists of a lighted fireplace soft chairs cheese trays and stereo music nurses and aides are on hand to serve It all takes place every afternoon at four oclock and is a low-key almost sedate affair (the amount of wine HOLLYWOOD (NEA) -Somewhere in Libya they are making the biggest movie in years And the most expensive Michael Ansara who is part of the cast came back for a few months in between his scenes and told me about the problems and progress The movie is Mohammed The Messenger of God the life of the Arab prophet who founded Islam Ansara has been working on the film for a year and the end is not yet in sight Ansara and Anthony Quinn are the only Americans in the cast The others come from all over Irene Pappas is Greek and there are Arabians and English The film Ansara says will cost around $20 million He says Quinn alone will earn $15 million from his work Mohammed The Messenger of God has stirred up a furor in the Moslem world Ansara says there are factions within that religion as there appear to be within all religions And one faction which he describes as puritanical is strongly opposed to dramatizing Mohammeds life This even though Mohammed will never appear on screen in deference to the religions precept against showing him Because of this dispute the company was kicked out of its first location in Morocco They had been working there for months and had built a fantastic set But the anti film faction got to the Moroccan government persuaded them of the justice of their cause and they were booted out "We were given a weeks notice Ansara says When the week was up a force of armed Moroccan police appeared and we had to leave The man behind the film is a Syrian born American film maker Moustapha Akkad He is both producer and director But behind him is Arab oil money There is plenty of that around ana this is their en- tree into the movie business Ansara says that despite the films enormous cost it is certain to make its money back by showings in the Moslem world alone Throughout that part of the world he says movies are the only method of relaxation for the people If you want to see a movie in Libya you have to make reservations weeks in advance I understand that said I read about it being done in other places I didnt see why we shouldnt try it To me the social hour is a lovely way of adding life to their years instead of merely adding years to their lives Wine is a symbol of adult life It might help our residents realize they neednt be treated like children Dr Gray agreed Theres plenty of scientific evidence to prove that wine is beneficial for patients like ours He also pointed out that wine is commonplace in the hospitals of Europe Patients interviewed seemed
