TWENTY-SEVEN PIKE, PARKWAY STORM CRASHES State Police Report 20 Accidents on State Highways Greece's Queen Suffers A Miscarriage in Rome Three injuries were reported in 20 accidents on the Fairfield county sections of the Merritt parkway and the Connecticut turnpike yesterday during the storm and two accidents involving tractor trailer trucks tied up turnpike traffic in Westport and Stamford for a total of eight hours. Generally slippery conditions were reported on the roadways, especially on the bridges, State Police reported. Penelope D. Beardsley, 16, of 114 Eunice street, Fairfield, received head and neck injuries last night at 6:20 o'clock when the car she was driving east on the turnpike in Fairfield near the Route 1 exit struck a tire in the road, went out of control and struck the median divider railing, Trooper Hiltz said.

She was treated by her own physician. Trooper Hiltz said the tire was put onto the roadway by Ronald Lamb, 34, of West Haven, who was changing the tire on a disabled truck. Mr. Lamb was charged with reckless use of the highway. Traffic Blocked Westbound traffic on the Saugatuck river bridge in Westport on the Connecticut turnpike was blocked for more than four hours early today when a tractor trailer truck driven by Charles Bankard, 36, of Baltimore, jackknifed while braking to avoid a car ahead, State Police reported.

Trooper George Srebotnik said the car, driven by Steven E. Schettini, 20, of Bergenfield, N.J., spun out of control into the median guard railing at 3:45 a.m. According to Trooper Peter Schaaf, five minutes later the truck driver attempted to avoid the auto ahead but was unable to stop because of the icy road conditions. Mr. Bankard was charged with speeding (too fast for conditions) and the Schettini youth was charged with failure to drive in the established lane.

In Stamford at 5 a.m., eastbound traffic was delayed at the Greenwich avenue overpass when a truck driven by John. J. McGiff, 46, of Baltimore, went out of control and struck the median divider, State Police said. Trooper Stephen A. Bognar reported the McGiff truck was then struck by another operated by William H.

Talleroy, 45, of Linwood avenue, Bridgeport, leaving only the right lane open. Mr. McGiff received a bruised leg and was treated by his own ROME, (AP) Queen Anne- Marie of Greece suffered a miscarriage Thursday night and lost the baby she was expecting in June, the Greek Embassy announced today. The condition of the 21-year- old Danish-born wife of King Constantine was described as "completely satisfactory." A spokesman at the Villa Claudia clinic north of Rome where the Queen was taken Thursday, said she left the clinic before dawn and returned to the Greek Embassy with her, husband. Rushed to Clinic Anne-Marie was rushed to the clinic when doctors said she was in danger of a miscarriage.

She has two other children, Princess Alexia, 2, and Crown Prince Paul, seven months. (UPI) The California highway patrol is equipping 500 patrol cars with loudspeakers and variable pitch high-low sirens to aid slightly deaf, forgetful or day-dreaming motorists. The speakers will be used mainly for crowd control and advising motorists to fit tires with snow chains.

The special sirens will be for the driver who doesn't hear the regular siren. by Robert A. In Bridgeport on the eastbound lanes of the turnpike near the Wordin avenue exit at 10:15 a.m., a car driven by Henry S. Barsky, 24, of 393 South Pine Creek road, Fairfield, struck the rear of one driven by Bernard L. Seidner, 41, of Yonkers, N.Y., that apparently stopped in the travel lane, Trooper Joseph Oliva said. Mr. Seidner was charged with hazardous parking.

On the parkway in Norwalk at Samuel Lewkow, 71, of 86 Wooster street, Shelton, was 112:30 p.m.. a car driven by Su- struck in the rear by another I san J. Trooper John Solomon said the Buchelli auto struck one driven lanes to pass a disabled auto, Trooper John Guerin reported.

He identified the driver of the other car as John W. Nicholini, 25, of Hartford. Miss Anderson was warned for unsafe lane changing. Billie Cogdell, 38, of Roodner court. South Norwalk, was charged with failure to drive in the established lane by State Police after his car went out of control in heavy rain and knocked down a utility pole on the westbound lanes of the Connecticut turnpike near the Kings Highway exit last night at 8:15 o'clock, Trooper James Hiltz reported.

JOSEPH C. McGUIRE Joseph C. McGuire, 60, of 247 Jane street, security officer at Harding high school and former area baseball player, collapsed and died last night at 8 o'clock while walking at East Main and Berkshire avenue. Dr. Harold Doherty, medica! examiner, said Mr.

McGuire died of a heart attack. Services will take place tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. in the Long Hill funeral home of Mullins anc Redgate, Main street, and Gorham place, and at noon in St. Charles church with a requiem Mass. Burial will be in St.

Michael's cemetery. Sgt. Leonard Cocco, of the Detective division, said Mr. McGuire had been visiting friends and was walking home when he collapsed. He fell over a wrough iron fence about three feet high into a front yard at 1391 Eas Main street.

Police said it was thought at first that Mr. McGuire had been the victim of a hit-and-run automobile accident or a mugging, Mr. McGuire was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. After attending St. Charles and Central high schools, Mr McGuire spent a year at the University school and three years at New York university on a track scholarship.

Locally he played basketbal with Central and TUS and also with the St. Charles team in the Holy Name league and footbal with the Junior College of Con necticut. On his first try at track competition, he became a junior state champion in the javelin throw in Stamford. He later competed in junior nationals and was a track star at NYU In baseball, he played with the Twilight, Holy Name and Senior City leagues, winding up his local career with the Lenox in 1935. He left college to play minor league baseball with the Bridgeport team in the Eastern league under the late Hans Lobert, and later with Albany and Springfield.

Ran Sport Shop After several seasons as an outfielder and first baseman, he went into the insurance field and later took over the D. M. Read store's men's clothing division and Spalding Sport shop, remaining there 18 years until the department was discontinued. He later was associated with Henry Rutkin in the Arcade Men's Shop. Survivors are a brother, Thomas H.

McGuire of Fairfield; and two nieces. DANBURY Services for Mr. and Mrs. James Balogh, of 120 Osborne street, who died within murs of one another Wednesday Danbury hospital, will take place Saturday at 9:15 a.m. the John C.

Freeland funeral home, 91 West street, and at 10 o'clock in St. Gregory the Great church with a solemn high requiem Mass. Burial will be in St. Peter's cemetery. Mrs.

Esther Warga Balogh. 7S. died after having been a patient the hospital two days. Mr. Balogh, 79, had been hospitalized for the past week and died hours later.

The couple had been residents of a 50 years. Both were natives of Hungary. Mr. Balogh was employed as a hatter until his retirement 10 years ago. They are survived by two sons, James Balogh, Jr.

and John F. Balogh, both of Danbury; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Balogh is also survived by two brothers, Stephen Warga, of Peekskill, N. and Charles Warga, of Hastings, N.

and three sisters, Mrs. James Carroll, Mrs. Ethel Cooney, and Mrs. George Roberts, all of Peekskill. Mr.

Balogh is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Fazekas, of Auburndale. and Mrs. Irene Hubicik of Long Island, N. Y.

RITES FOR THREE BROTHERS Services were conducted in North Carolina for Thomas A Lassiter, III, 18, Dennis Lassiter, 16, and William Lassiter, 15, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Lassiter of 173 Garibaldi avenue, Stratford, who died Tuesday in an auto accident on a holiday visit to North Carolina. Burial was in Ahoskie, N.C.

Norton of Wallingford takes over today as the top official in a new State Highway Department program concerned with bridge safety. Norton, former chief of hydraulics and drainage for the department, will be acting Engineer of Bridges and Structures, said Highway Commissioner Howard S. Ives. As a direct representative ol the chJef engineer, Norton will concern himself with the design, construction, and maintenance of all bridges, culverts, sign supports and other structures which require close attention to insure public safety, the announcement said.

Sixteen highway engineers and inspectors, four from each highway district in the state, wil report directly to Norton. The 16 men previously had been en gaged in periodic bridge inspection. a merit sys- SEWING COURSE SET AT SHEHAN CENTER A 10-week sewing course will be offered for children and adults by the Archbishop Shehan center, 1494 Main- street, which will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., beginning next week, according to George A. Fasolo, executive director. The Tuesday class will be open to beginner sewers, and will include basic instruction in choosing and fitting a pattern, sewing terms, use of a sewing machine, and easy "fun" sewing projects. Thursday classes be for intermediate or advanced sewers, and will include instruction variations of patterns, designing and sewing "with a personal touch." to 5 p.m. SHOPLIFTER JAILED Circuit Court Judge John G. Cicala yesterday meted out 60-day jail sentence to Nathan Hall, 31, of 27 Drouve street, for shoplifting. Hall pleaded guilty at a hearing Dec. 14.

Bridgeport police said they arrested the man Nov. 18 in the Post office arcade after they received a complaint he was involved in a shoplifting incident a short time earlier in the Wai- green's store on Main street. During the earlier hearing a second charge of resisting arrest was nolled. DEVELOPS NEW POTATO CANNOCK, England (UPI) Gardener Joe Kirkham has developed a red, white and blue potato. Kirkman, an 85-year-old retired miner, said the new potatoes have blue specks among the more usual red and white and he is naming the variety "Union Jack" after Britain's national flag.
