CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE SENT TO: HAJDA ARAB MEDICAL RELIEF FUND PO BOX 6051 ALBANY CALIFORNIA 94708 ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE CHICAGO (UPI) Sen Howard Baker R-Tenn said Friday he has seen no evidence the Watergate scandal has damaged Republican election chances for 1976 and predicted over-confident Democrats would be in for a terrible jolt Baker a member of the Senate -Wategrate Committee also disputed a charge by AFLCIO President George Meany who called the Nixon administration the most corrupt in US history I do not argue with Mr Meany that it is patently clear there have been political excesses from the political norm Baker told a news conference But the fact is that only certain people in the administration have been called to account Mr Meanys statement is inconsistent with the fact that a bi-partisan vote of 77-0 established the Watergate Committee and that the committee itself is composed of Republicans as well as Democrats he said As for Republican chances in future elections Baker said judging from his own post Watergate assessment Democrats who plan to stand around and be handed the election on a silver platter are in for a terrible jolt Baker was in Chicago to address a convention of the National Automatic Merchandising Association He said he was not surprised at ex-administra-tion aide John Deans guilty plea to one charge of obstructing justice and predicted we will see a string of similar pleas in the days to come Baker said the Watergate Committee probably will accept an adverse Supreme Court decision on the question of whether President Nixon should turn over his taped office conversations to the committee" but we wont like it He said he also regards as unlikely that the President would refuse to surrender the tapes if ordered to do so by the high court There has been much speculation on this matter but I will continue on my as sumption that if the court orders Mr Nixon to turn over the takes he will do Poage attacks milk support
