SOWERS TITH the return of the VV excursion for down the plans enlarged firms and the merchants of was the second trip made by chamber of commerce to months.

The first was to merchants attended the Among the first cittes of the United States to take advantage of its trade opportunities with foreign lands at the close of the great war, Los Angeles left no stones unturned in the last years to put this city on the map as a seaport. Many harbor improvements have been made within that time and new steamship Pines have been established to carry cargoes from the port of Los An- geles. NEW BASIC VALUES All of this great commercial itivity has given Los Angeles a treanendous impetus in industrial, mannufacturing and shipping development, and it has had an immeasurable influence on basic real estate values in the city. For many months after the signing of the armistice few people in Los Angeles really had a clear comprehension of the purpose of the new order of civic developanent. They heard a great deal about the harbor and the development and expansion of shipping, but it seemed to them to be something that was many years away.

BETTER UNDERSTANDING Gradually that feeling has changed to a better and a bigger understanding of the aims and purposes of the chamber of commerce in its advocacy of foreign trade through the port of Los Angeles and its tremendous activity to bring overseas commerce to a reality. Then with the ending of war in Mexico and the beginning of new government that apparently meant a stabilizing of industry, Los Angeles business men were the first to take advantage of the opportunity to investigate things first hand in the sister republic. PLEASED WITH OUTLOOK Sylvester Weaver, the new president of the chamber of commerce; Maynard McFie, the retiring president, and the wheel horses on the board of directors express themselves as more than pleased with the outlook for an increased and constantly increasing trade with Mexico. They have returned from their last trip more enthustastic than ever NEW HILL HOME TRACT IS OPENED IN HEART OF CITY Rainbow Crest, beautiful new subdivision opened by Carlin G. This will be known as the Sodco district, and will be formed partly from the Elsinore and partly from the Wildamar districts. Excellent school facilities have been accorded, children of this district by free motor bus service, but new farmers have come in to such a number that a separate school district has deemed warranted. County Superintendent Landis suggested the redistricting.

Five hundred acres of the Sodco district are now under planting, with new fields being added almost daily. In addition to farmers from Orange, ELSINORE RE chamber of commerce trade west coast of Mexico still greater business between Los Angeles Mexico have been formed. OPEN LITTLE FARM HOME TRACT ON CITY CAR LINE One hundred and fifty acres of land at thinend of the Stephenson avenue car fronting on the Whittier boulevard road, has been acquired by the Janss Investment Company, and is now under subdivision for home sites. In reality these are to be little farm homes, a survey platting them into one-third acres and up.

The property just obtained by the subdividers is part of the famous old Rancho de Laguna, and this particular residence section will be known as Belvedere Five-cent serves this section to the end of the Stephenson car line. The property is within walking distance beyond, and its development marks an eastward trend of the city of Los Angeles. Previously this had been a farming section. The property has been known especially because of the fact that ranches developed their own natural gas for fuel purposes. Oil wells are being sunk just to the south at the present time.

Fifty-four acres are comprised in the first of this property to be put on the home-site list. Street work and the piping of water is now under way, and formal announcement of the opening of the tract is to be made within a short time. and predict great things for Los Angeles in a commercial way with Mexican merchants and industrial institations. Only a very small percentage of the crowd was able to receive the personal attention of the sales force of Carlin G.

Smith on the opening day and many selected their own lots. Fully 250 persons took advantage opportunity to inspect this "tract beautiful," and while the sales surpassed the expectations of everyone except Mr. Smith, it is only a criterion of what is to come when the message is delivered to the "buyers of homesites" that desire terraced homesites out of the fog district and close to schools, stores and other conveniences. PURE AIR The peacefulness, the quiet and beauty of Rainbow Crest lends an added enchantment. You have often wanted to get away from the noise, the hustle and bustle, away out in the country where the air is pure, the fields green and nature instils the strength to carry on; well, that's just what you get at Rainbow Crest, only three miles from the center of our fair city, and served by both red and yellow cars," says Mr.

Smith. In keeping with the nature of this property the sites are all Jarge, all lots being 50 feet wide and having a depth cf 150 to 250 feet. Water will be served by the bureau of public service and the installation of water mains in the streets is included in the prices asked. LARGE LOTS In keeping with his policy, "the most for the least," Mr.

Smith certainly has outdone himself, for lots of a similar character adjoining are priced at two and three times what he is asking. "Just consider." says Carlin G. Smith, "where you can purchase lot 50x150 with oiled roadway and water included, for $250 to $550, on easy payments. It can't be done, that's all, except at Rainbow Crest. And.

when one realizes that this property is only 15 minutes (three miles) from the center of our city, it seems almost a miracle.
