SUPERVISORS GIVEN DEBATE ON CANAL ROAD Arguments for and against abandonment of a portion of the Smith Canal south levee were made yesterday before the county Board of Supervisors, who took the question under advisement for a week. Led by Warren H. Atherton and Howard Hammond, petitioners argued the portion is unnecessary, a burden to taxpayers if improved and an interference with canal dredging.

Opposing discontinuance. County Surveyor Julius B. Manthoy and City Planner H. G. Bissoll argued the drive is needed for travel between Yosemite Lake and Louis Park.
