Thursday, Aug. 29, 1985 Big Bear Life The Grizzly Section A 7 Explosion on Big Bear film next summer 4, the crew has to tolerate when they are shooting in public areas. Overall Geoffray said the businesses and people from Big Bear were so cooperative in making arrangements for the filming. Other areas used in addition to the library were the picnic area and boat landing at Juniper Point, the Robinhood Inn, the Wishing Well Motel and some of the roads around Big Bear. Regarding the companys use of the Big Bear area for filming, Geoffray said it was the closest place to Los Angeles with forest area that had the right secluded look.

We looked at all the lakes in this area and decided that Big Bear was the best choice, Geoffray said. He added that they needed a boat landing that resembled something out of the 1950s, and the Juniper Point landing provided that. According to Geoffray, the areas used for shooting around Big Bear Lake will be identified as such in the movie. A number of Valley residents were recruited to serve as extras for the film. Among them was Walt Dodge, who acted as a local sheriff.

Although his company is small, Geoffray figured the use of the 55 production persons who took part in the weeks filming resulted in about $30,000 to $35,000 being invested into the Big Bear community. While the majority of the funds probably went for food and Big Bear Valley last week to film READY TO DASH away from the smoke and fire scene they are creating are two members of the demolitions team working on the filming of the movie, Ouija. Those that sped to the scene for a closer look soon discovered that everything was well under control cleaning up the debris and making sure the fire was out was the production crew of the Paragon Arts film company, which was shooting a scene for its latest movie, Ouija. The blast had been staged with the help of demolitions experts to depict an explosion which kills a boy in the opening scenes of the movie.

The film is about the spirit of a boy who dies in a boating accident, said producer Jeff Geof-fray. The plot centers in the boys spirit making contact with a woman and attempting to become physically reborn through her, he explained. The film crew was in Big Bear Valley from Aug. 18 through 24 last week shooting scenes for the suspense film in the style of Alfred Hitchcock, said Geof-fray. Because Paragon Arts is a relatively small, independant production company, it must in many cases search out existing scenery to use for its sets rather than construct them.

As an independant company we simply dont have the money to construct all our sets, Geoffray said. The company used the Big Bear Lake Branch of the San Bernardino County Library" to film a scene showing two of the main characters searching through library records for some information about the boy who was killed. Although the library was closed during a two-hour shooting block on the afternoon of Aug. 21, branch librarian Karen Nelson said that did not stop borrowers from charging in through the side door to either return books or request to check out some. While Nelson was not happy over the interruptions that could have cost the film crew a good take, Geoffray said that curiosity seekers are just one thing PHABMACYP1 by Vic Jeknavorian Pharm-D Not too long ago, especially in frontier communities, the sick were treated with folk medicines because there was nothing better.
