This was followed by the audience singing "Onward, Christian Soldiers. Irvin Smith, master of ceremonies, opened the Bond drive with a strong appeal that Topanga oversubscribe its quota. The response was prompt and gratifying.

Bond buyers popped up all over the house and Air-Raid Wardens reported many sales. Not to be outdone by their elders, the kids came up with pennies and nickles clutched tightly in little fists to help swell the evenings total by their purchase of War Stamps. Heading the list of Scouts who sold the most raffle tickets were Eddie Grip), who sold 25; Duane Swallow, 23; and Kenneth Raymond, 20. The boy were awarded War Stamps for their patriotic work. Mrs. Quereau was top salesman for not only Topanga but also the entire Malibu area with a total of $6,000 in War Bond sales. The editor was in charge of the Drive. This was Topangas first formal Bond drive. Its success attests to the patriotism and industry of its citizenry and proves, when united in a good cause can put things over with a bang.
