The adjourned mass meeting held at the Court-house last evening, adopted the following preamble and resolutions as presen tel by the committee: The citizens of Santa Cruz, at a general meeting in the Court-house, expressed their sentiments as to the right of the city to hold her original place in the itinerary of the Presidential party in the following preamble and resolutions We, the people of the city of Santa Cruz, impelled by the highest motives of loyalty and hospitality, in order to assume among the citizens of our common country in the itinerary ol the president of the United States the equal station to which the Ians of Nature and of Natures God entitle us, are constrained to solemnly preteBt against the action of the General Committee of Arrangements for President Harrisons reception in California which eliminates oar community from the program and turns the Presidential path from the pleasure of a pause in our fair city.

Confidently relying upon the authenticity of the published itinerary, we have provided necessary funds and taken all the preliminary steps to tender President Harrison a reception in harmony with the dignity of his high office; we are fully prepared to entertain with patriotic propriety and purpose the Grand Army of the Republic which is about to assemble for its annual State session in our midst, and of which organization President Harrison is an honorable member our city crowned in the floral wreaths of a May Queen waits in the direct line of the Presidents outing from San Francisco to Monterey to extend to him a generous welcome avoid her will necessitate back-tracking her intended guests from Monterey to San Jose; the giant grove of Sequoia at our doors has no counterpart outside the Yosemite reservation to go around us is to inflict a lasting disappointment that, from our point of view, iB without just cause to leave us out of the itinerary is to deprive the President and his distinguished party of an opportunity that seldom comes twice in a lifetime of riding through the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains, over a ronte that for incomparable beauty and grandeur has no parallel page in nature, into the Newport of tbe Pacific and out along more than twenty miles of the most remarkable cliff line on the continent. In view of these facts and the reaaon-ableneas of our request, we hold that our demand to be restored to our rightful place in the Presidential program cannot be justly denied. Therefore, be it Resolved, That the general committee of arrangements having in charge President Harrisons tour in the State of California be earnestly requested to restore the city of Santa Cruz to its original place in the Presidential itinerary, in order to afford us the pleasure ot extending a generous greeting to our honored Chief Magistrate. Resolved, That the railroad people in charge of the transportation of President Harrison and his distinguished party be respectfully asked to so arrange the run from San Jose to Monterey as to bring our honored guests over the South Pacific Coast narrow-gauge route through the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains to our city, thereby giving the President an opportunity to see the only grove of the giant Sequoia outside the Yosemite reservation. Resolved, That said committee and said transportation company be earnestly urged to consider, the fairness of our appeal as expressed in the foregoing preamble and in these resolutions in tlie same spirit of candor and patriotism in which it is tendered, and bear in mind the fact that we, the people of the city of Santa Cruz, are on the direct route of the run to Monterey, and ask for a privilege and a right that can in no possible way add to the pressure of Presidential engagements nor interfere with pre-arranged plans.

Resolved, That President Harrison and his party be apprised of the purport of these resolutions and that he be, and he hereby is, cordially invited to come by the city of Santa Cruz on his trip from San Francisco to Monterey that we may tender him a hospitable welcome as a mark of our esteem for him and the dignity of his high office, and such as is due from ns as loyal subjects of this great commonwealth. Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to present the foregoing resolutions to the general Committee of Arrangements and to tbe transportation company having in charge President Harrisons itinerary in the State of California. Respectfully submitted, Wm. T. Jeter, Richard Thompson, The Mayor then stated that he thought that these resolutions Bhouid be presented to the Presidential Reception Committee in San Francisco by a delegation of citizens and it was voted that Wm.

T. Jeter and R. Thompson of the present committe should visit San Francisco for this purpose, and that Hon. W. H.

Galbraith should be invited to accompany them. The Mayor stated that the expenses of the committee would be paid by the city. Comrade L. F. Smith read resolutions and a request which were to be presented to the President through the G.

A. which were also approved by the meeting. The meeting then adjourned to meet at the call of the chairman, if necessary. An Important Improvement. ORIGINAL Watch cases ought not to be handled between the time they leave the factert and when they go into the bands ot the customer.

Makes the Weak Strong The marked benefit which people in run down or weakened state of health derive from Hoods Sarsaparilla, conclusively proves the claim that this medicine makes tbe weak strong. It does not act like a stimulant, imparting fictitious strength from which there must follow reaction of greater weakness than before, bnt In tbe most natural way Hoods Sarsaparilla overcomes that tired feeling, creates an appetite, purifies tbe blood, and, in short, gives great bodily, nerve, mental and digestive strength. Fagged Out Last spring I was completely fagged out My strength left me and I felt sick and miserable all the time, so that I could hardly att to my business.

I took one bottle of Iioods Sarsaparilla, and it cured me. There Is nothing like it. B. G. Bbqou, Editor Enterprise, Belleville, Mich.

I derived very much benefit from Hoods Sarsaparilla, which I took for general debility. It built me right up, and gave me an excel lent appetite. Ed. Jenkins, Mt Savage, Md H. B.

Caused by Iron-Clad Laundry Ordinances. Some time eince the city of Watsonville passed an iron-clad ordinance that no one should wash or iron clothes within the corporate limits of tbe city. A few days ago a number of Chinese were ariested for ironing clothes and were imprisoned in the city hostile.

This was looked upon as a good joke until sundry people wanted clean shirts and other clothes, but the Chinamen refused, in a Bpirit of irony, (flat-irony?) to deliver any garments, or could not, being locked up themselves, and hence locked np the linen of the citizens. The Galoot Club of Watsonville discussed the case according to the rules of their club. Many had expressed an opinion that a jury trial was impossible as such decided and emphatic opinions bad been expressed. Yesterday, habeas corpus, the safeguard of our liberties and tbe refuge of tbe Asiatics in time of need, was appealed to before our Superior Court. Yot Kee was habeas corpused.

Lawyers Holbrook and Lee appeared for the defendant, and City Attorney Hall for the body politic of Watsonville. Constitutional law and the Statutes of California, and all cases bearing on the matter were read; the opinion of Judge Sawyer was read in extenso and laid down as incontrovertible in the case being submitted. Judge McCann rendered his opinion that the Council of Watsonville had exceeded its powers; that tbe ordinance was too sweeping; that washing and ironing was not a nuisance, per bs; that the ordinance waB void, hence the prisoners must be discharged. Our fellow-citizens of Watsonville can now get their biled shirts in time to come to the Grand Encampment of the G. A.

R. Galoot. Eicampment Echoes. At the final meeting of the committee tor the G. A.

R. arrangements last evening, Chairman Goldsby wae appointed to interview the School Trustees and request them to have the public schools closed tomorrow from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m.

on account of tbe parade. Chairman Goldsby was also appointed a delegate to San Francisco to request the presence of President Harrison in Santa Cruz. The decorations on Pacific avenue were pretty nearly completed yesterday and are really very showy and creditable. The arch, which is tbe work of Ed March, was first ordered erected at tbe junction of Cooper street with Pacific avenue, but the tradee-peopie there would not allow it even if they were paid a boDus. Messrs.

Williamson Garrett then offered the use of their corner without money and without price, so it now stands in beauty at the junction of Walnut and Pacific avenues. Mr. March has worked faithfully to complete It and the effect nnder the electric lights last evening wae very good indeed. The hour of assembling for the W. R.
