1, 8, 1965) The pages of history are being turned back in Williamsburg Village, a community of retirement and family homes inspired by the restoration of Colonial -Williamsburg in Virginia and being erected in the hills of Sussex County, New Jersey. The prototype of similar communities planned for Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania, Williamsburg Village features not only new homes that reproduce authentic Colonial designs but also 18th Century buildings restored to preserve their pre-Revolutionary War character. The environment will be Colonial right down to the landscaping design, which will include wells and hitching posts. To assure continuity of design, the community is being formed on a club plan. If somebody wants to build a contemporary house, we dont want him.

We wont let down on the environment, Harry Sturrock, managing director, said. Although the accent will be on the past, the comforts and conveniences will be strictly modern. As an example of how historical authenticity and modern functionalism are being combined, architect John McMasters said the new homes will use stock panel doors and modern, factory-weatberstripned windows of pur 'dtrosa- pine that faithfully reproduce traditional Colonial designs. Wood window units in some of the new homes will include insulating glass, to eliminate the need for storm windows, and removable grills, to simplify the task of washing and maintaining the Colonial-style windows. The site is dotted, with 18th Century buildings which have been adapted and refurbished for community use.

An old farmhouse has been restored as the Williamsburg Village Clubhouse, a social center. Another restoration is the Raleigh Meeting House, a huge, 40-foot, pine-paneled hall with an immense stone fireplace, which will be used for community events. The original hand-hewn beams, antique hardware and plank, sidings in these buildings have been carefully preserved. Also preserved is the original barn, which will be used to quarter riding horses. Although conceived primarily as a retirement community, Williamsburg Village is seeking families in all age brackets.

Our research shows old people dont want to be segregated, Mr. Sturrock stated. Among the modern attractions of the community, to which none of the tradition-minded future residents has objected, is a club swimming pool. Hew Show In Parisian Room At Dunes Hotel LAS VEGAS, Nev.
