DLH theatres a TORRANCE charming duo a racing car driver Stanley is delighted by his pregnancy not knowing that he the father and that Bonnie is seeking an abortion In Toronto Rita and Bonnie rent a loft together and find jobs in a mattress factory where everyone else is a musical-comedy Italian As Bonnie ponders whether or not to have the abortion Rita sets her cap for the factory slickly handsome nephew Marcello (Winston Rekert) who does indeed look a bit like Marcello Mastroianni Nothing happens in that telegraphed 15 minutes ahead of time but Miss Kidder and Miss Potts are good fun to watch not because they convince you of the reality of their characters but because they handle their assignments with such unbridled comic actressy enthusiasm Carradine does nicely with a much less showy role and Rekert is funny because his Marcello remains essentially modest without being stupid safely this side of cariacature That fide actress Peggy Feury appears in a tiny but important scene as the doctor who advises Bonnie about a possible abortion The film is unrated and playing at the Los Feliz Hollywood and Monica 4 Plex Santa Monica NYTNS Kidder Potts a By Vincent Canby a sentimental romantic comedy that talks tough but means to break your heart with its sweetness is about the fast friendship of two totally dissimilar young women on the loose in Toronto That it unbearable is due largely to the enjoyable performances of Margot Kidder as Rita a glib aggressively hip peroxide blond and Annie Potts who plays Bonnie a pregnant waif who is not so naive as she initially seems is principally the work of Donald Shebib the director of Down the the 1970 Canadian film that exploited much the same sort of characters but for melodramatic puposes When Rita and Bonnie first meet on a bus headed for the big city Rita who sometimes works as a bartender and sometimes as a cook on Great Lakes ore boats is between lovers and jobs and looking to add a new chapter to her oddball odyssey Bonnie has run off from her husband Stanley (Robert Carradine) an automobile mechanic who aspires to be fliinn THcATRfcS Beach Torrance $250 DAILY FOR SHOWS STARTING BEFORE 3 PM (213) 640-107S Spu)vd 6 Romctwi MATT DILLON TEX 12 30-2 30-4 30-6 30-10 30 12 45-2 30-4 15-6 00-6 00-10 (G) 12 00-1 30 3 00 PETER TOOLE MGM UA My FAVORITE 1 1 Year 12 30-2 304 30-6 3010 30 (R) I 45-6 45 8 45 10 45 The Ha missionary!
