The ATHENA vehicle, de veloped to reduce the costs of these flights, has been specially designed to reproduce ICBM trajectories and velocities over the 417 mile range from Green River to White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. Widows' home under study RIVERSIDE — A home for widows and dependents of A i r Force officers might be built near March Air Force Base in the future. Riverside is one of several locations being considered as a future site for the home which would be similar to the existing Army distaff hall in Washington. Plans for the home were disclosed Monday by an Air Force Site Selection team which is inspecting the area for possible location of an airmen's home. The distaff hall is a project of Air Force Officers Wives Clubs, and has no connection with the airmen's home, which requires congressional action. An Air Force spokesman said that General Curtis Le May. chief of staff, Air Force, has asked Mrs. Jacqueline Cochran Odium of Indio to head a committee which will result in the formation of a non-profit foundation to build the home. The team is understood to be looking at locations for the distaff home at the same time as lit is studying sites for an air- I men's home. "The two homes arc not com-" patible," the spokesman said, "but that doesn't mean to say that they couldn't be located in the same area." The distaff hall, which would cost something in the region of S4.2 million, would be run on the lines of the Army's distaff hall. This houses widows who are over 62 years old. This facility resembles a high class residence hotel," the spokesman explained, "and the residents pay their way and also pay a fee to enter." Gildersleeve to marry VENTURA, Calif. (UPI) — Harold J. Peary, the "Great Gildersleeve" of radio and movie fame, is planning to marry electronics engineer Callie J. Lawson. The couple took out a mar- iriage license Tuesday at the Ventura County Courthouse. Both Peary, 55, and Miss Lawson. 42, are residents of Manhattan Beach, Calif. One dead two hurt as car goes over bank CAMP PENDLETON (UPI)— A car veered off U.S. 101 and over a 30-foot embankment on this Marine base Tuesday, killing a young soldier and seriously injuring two of his relatives.
