Phones: Bell, 35; Peoples, 82. BESSEMER, March 31. The town of Jonesboro is now an established fact. By the decision of Judge Charles A. Senn, of the city court of Birmingham the incorporation of that place was declared valid and Mayor John D.

Martin and his elected board of aldermen will take charge of the new town on Monday morning. The fight to quash the incorporation of the place has been a long one. Sev eral months ago an election was called to vote on the Incorporation and two factions fought for the control of the proposed new town. After the victory of Captain Martin and his board a technicality as to the legality of the papers of incorporation was raised and the matter was thrown into court About two weeks ago a decision was rendered in favor of Captain Martin, but an appeal from the decision of the court was taken and this morning the final decision was rendered. This establishes the town of Jonesboro and many people of that place are much gratified at the result.

BESSEMER, March 31. After a long and exciting chase In the vicinity of McCalla a chicken thief was run to earth and killed by his pursuers last evening. For several months the farmers of the community have been annoyed by the constant raids being made on their chicken houses and many traps to catch the intruder were laid, but without avail. Yesterday evening a prominent farmer was at- -tracted by a noise from his barii yard and by frantic efforts of his dog attempting to loose himself from the chain which held him. He saw the thief come out of the barn and rushing into his house and securing his gun, he turned the dog loose and gave chase.

Over fields fled the thief, pursued by the farmer, who was determined to capture him, dead or alive. Shot after shot was fired, but all went wild. The guilty one covered miles in an endeavor to escape and at one time hid in a barn from which he was routed and chased again. After a long run he was cornered and showed fight, but a bullet from the gun of S. N.

Jones penetrated the eye and he fell dead. On rushing up to investigate hisvlc-tim, Mr. Jones found that he had shot a large male wildcat. The men of the community are glad that the invader of their barns and chicken coops is laid low. LAWNS Opening Days Monday and Tuesday April 2d and 3d A string band will be in attendance and continuous concerts will be given.

BESSEMER, March 31. The Beavers had a big meeting last night and a record In the matter of securing new members was probably made which will be hard to beat in the realm of secret orders. On February 10, a contest for new members was started and the lodge divided itself into two crews, who were designated the reds and the blues. This contest closed last night, and reports were made. The total number of new members secured was one i hundred and one.

The reds secured sixty-six, while the blues got thirty-five. The total membership of this order in this city is now two hundred and seventy-five, and is comprised of some of the best men of the place. Next Thursday a special meeting will be held to initiate the new members and on Friday there will be a smoker, at which Supreme President F. F. Conway, of Mobile, and other supreme officers will be present.

On Sunday, the members will meet at the hall at 10 oclock, and march in a body to the Christian church, where a special sermon will be preached by the Rev. D. P. Taylor, who is a member of the order. NO IMPORTANfBRIDGE HAS BEEN DAMAGED BESSEMER, March 31.

The political pot of Brighton is beginning to warm up, and the interest in the coming election for the city officials is being discussed with much Interest. A few nights ago it was stated that L. N. Buell, who was a candidate last time, would make the race again, and it was thought that J. C.

Vines, the present incumbent, would also run. Mr. Vines has come out with a statement this morning in wheih he says that he is not seeking the office again, and that he and his Triends were going to insist that E. B. Knight make the race.

Mr. Knight, however, claims that he does not want to run, but the Vines people insist that be do, and say that they will make him a candidate even against his will. With these two men in the field, and each; with a following, the race will be In-1 teresting. Mr. Vine is responsible for the statement that the matter ofj a principal for the schools will not be irf the issue, so far as Prof.

Crump is concerned, as Prof. Crump has stated that he will not seek that position this coming year. Mr. Vines wishes to thank his friends for their hearty cooperation during his administration. The election is to take place next month.
