23. "America Out of Time" is the title of the first lecture series on folk culture in 20th century America. Lectures are scheduled from Wednesday night to Friday afternoon Nov. 23-25. Lecturers are Wayland Hand, director of the Center for the Study of Comparative Folklore and Mythology at UCLA, and historian Douglass Adair from the Claremont Graduate School.

Their speeches will examine the hill people of Appalachia, the "desert rats" of the west, religious sects and isolated family-social units, their cultural complexity and part in the contem porary scene. The second program from Fri day night to Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25-27, will include two lec tures on the "Theater of Cruel ty" and illustrations by actors of scenes from plays bv Ionesco, Albee, Durrenmatt, Pinter, Jones and Genet William Melnitz, professor of theater arts and dean of the Col lege of Fine Arts at UCLA, and psychiatrist Hilda Rollman Branch of UCLA will lecture on contemporary drama as a reflec tion and comment on contem porary behavior. Actors Karl Swenson and Joan Tempkins will present an evening of theater followed by an open discussion with the speakers and audience. Tax Forms Available to 'Exemptees' Growers with vines or fruit and nut trees have been alerted to a state Board of Equalization hearing on a claim form pro posed for the use of growers in filing for tax exemptions on new plantings. The hearing is sched uled for 1:30 p.m., Nov. 22, at Si-, Sacramento. der to receive tax exemption for trees less than four yeard old and vines less than three years old. The new law puts the burden of reporting new plantings on the grower.
