J.Santamyer's Death at Zcneida. I When the Louisville Nash, ville Passenger Came Upon Him and Took His Life. HI Yesterday afternoon W. J. Santa-myer, Superintendent of the mines at Zcneida, was run over by a tiam the Louisville and Nashville railroad and killed.

lie had just started to cross the railroad track, evidently not seeing passenger train No. 3 approaching, and before the speed of the train could be cheeked to any extent he was struck and instantly killed. The remains were plaopd upon the first north-hound train and brought to this city, where they were taken to the Warner-Smiley undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. Today the body was sent to Pratt City, here will be held pending the arrival of relatives from the North. The dead man lived at Piatt City and leaves a wife and several children.

He was 30 years of age. At the time his death he had been at Zeneida but a week. 25c. AMUSEMENTS. The Klimt-Hearn Company opened Its engagement st the Auditorium last night with the four-net drama, A Nutmeg Match. A very large audience saw the performance and had every reason to be pleased. The company Is an excellent one In all of Its parts, well-staged, and pos sessed of some extremely effective scenery that introduces very attractive mechanical effects.

The musical specialties and the moving pictures are very pleasing, and the show, as a whole, well worth seeing. MUSIC AND MIRTH. Tuneful operas, prettily costumed and well staged, handsome girls with good voices, Is the bill at the Jefferson Theater for four nights and three matinees of this week. The Wllbur-Klrwln Opera Company will open an engagement tomorrow 1st lit, and during their short visit will present a number of different operas. Their repertoire Is large, embracing as It does, all the better class and favorite operas of the day.

Deceased was a bright and amiable voting woman and had a large circle of friends. 11 ENA COPELAND. Ben Copeland, the 14 months-old child of Mr. and Mrs F.ll Copeland, of 1617 Avenue died yesterday of bronchitis. The remains were shipped this morning to Columbus, where Interment will take place.

FDWIN WILLIAMS. Edwin Williams. Twenty-first street and Avenue B. died jesterday morning, aged 22 mouths. Interment took place at Elm Lenf cemetery.

Just before the car reached the place where the negro rode upon the shylug steed the horse made as though to rros the track In front of the Approaching car, but upon reaching a point between the rails It stopppd as though uncertain what to do next and tnen It sprang suddenly forward aa the enr was almost upon It. The sudden spring threw the negro flout the horse upon the ttnek a ml an Itv stant later be was beneath the wheels and his life was ground out. The horse escaped without Injury. XV.

T. Wood was In charge of the car and he made every effort to stop before running upon the negro, but tbe enr was ho near when the horse sprang upon the track that he could only check the speed of the car slightly. The accident was reported by the motorntan to an officer who carried him (o the city prison where he wss plnced under bond pending an Investigation. Bond wss furnished and Wood was released. COXS OPENING.

The Event Attracted Large Crowds Yesterday and Last Night. The Cox Shoe Company made its formal debut yesterday and last night, and the management has cause to con-graiulate Itself on the grand success of the event. The beautiful store, and It Is one of the very prettiest In the State, was artistically decorated with graceful festoons of wild smilax nnd numerous tropical-looking palms In apparent recognition of the many visitors. The big display windows were handsomely dressed, nnd the whole store was brilliantly lighted. The cozy corner, a de.

lightful little nook, with soft cushioned seats, was ft popular place, nnd many a pair indulged In a.pleasnnt chat there lat night. Mr. Tom Cox, manager, nnd Messrs. Arthur Barton and George Brown did the honors of the occasion, and were assisted by Master Oliver (ox, who is cashier of the company. The store was visited during the day by a large crowd, and last night the occasion assumed the aspects of a social event.

Society was largely represented, and the store was full from about 7 o'clock until after 10. Delightful music was discoursed during the evening hours by Sutto's Orchestra. A large number of elegant alumninum souvenirs went distributed among the visitors. The Cot Shoo Company have a very fine stock of high grade footwear, and the display of Nettletons goods, ranging up to and the Knox" shoes were much admired. The opening was most pleasant and doubtless hps made many friends for new company.
