meeting of the 1954-1955 school term in Arnett Wed-esday night October 13 President Knowles was in charge of the meeting Miss Burnett from Shattuck reported on her experiences at teachers recognition day at the State Fair in Oklahoma City Miss Mildred Dlcken from Fargo and Mrs Welthia Shaffer of Arnett reported on August workshop at Chickasha Mr Knowles reported Information from State Health Department relative to School Health Service for Ellis County This was a get acquainted meeting and over 50 teachers attending had a very enjoyable evening Refreshments were served by the Arnett School faculty The next meeting will be held at Shattuck on Wednesday night November 17 To The Voters Of Ellis County I am asking for your support for election to the office of County Treasurer would like to state I am a native of Ellis County am 37 years of age married and have two daughters I received i high school education at Fargo and attended college at Alva Oklahoma I have been a continuous taxpayer and voter in the county since becoming of age and have lived In the county all my life with the exception of about years spent with the Army Corps of Engineers In defense work and in the army I feel that I am fully qualified for the office and If elected I will give you the capable efficient and epurteous service to which you taxpayers and voters are entitled to from county officer holders people who would never stay down Our needs in County Represent ation have Increased along with the times More and better roads are needed Soil conservation the backbone of a nation needs more expanding legislation in its field We need more representation of our tax dollar too much back scratching and too many jobs that could be eliminated I am against four day legislative' weeks and seven pay Remember Mr Taxpayer you pay the bills My slogan has always been "work or quit" Our schools are directed and supervised by the best superintendents and teacher who are shaping the lives of our boys and girls giving their all knowing that in their hands rest the future of tomorrow I will do down the line 100 percent for a program that would better the condition of schools and their staff in anyway Our great state has so many natural resources that can be taxed in a -manner that would not be injurious to their welfare and would raise the extra revenue for schools roads and conservation and put all in a healthy condition To the pioneer people who have reached the age of 65 and through the misfortune of life find themselves on the old age assistance rolls let me say to you I will be working for a program to better your conditions and for increasing assistance checks I claim to be a miracle man or supernatural powers but I do believe I know what would be good for our state and county I had a store at Catesby for 18 years went through the good and bad years but I never lost faitli in mankind that he left place of business hungry I would like to represent the people of Ellis county in the next legislature' and I assure you that if I am elected I will do just that I am a Republican by choice but have never narrowed to the place where I could not treat and work with my many Commissioners Meet A Larason Ellis County state representative recently returned from Oklahoma City where he attended a meet in of the Board of Directors of the State Association of County Commissioners Larason was invited in his offi-al capacity as chairman of the Roads and Highways Committee of the Legislative Council The entire legislative program of the County Commissioners Associa tlon which will be presented to the Twenty-Fifth legislature when it convenes is January was thor oughly analyzed and discussed by the group In a statement to the group Larason said that it is always a hard fight to keep the county highway funds that are distributed to the counties by the state from being taken away from the county road program (school bus routes mail routes and farm-to-market roads) and spent in urban areas Larason said if we can keep at least the federal and state money we are now getting for county roads that hard-surfaced farm-to-market roads can actually be a reality in the rural counties including Ellis county which he represents He added that he expects a step-up in revenues returned to the counties for those roads which have been designated farm-to-market roads and that we are definitely making headway in getting rural areas out of the dust and mud Death Of Nephew Mr and Mrs A Jontra spent the first of the week in Erick with a nephew Leslie McGuire 59 who was in the hospital there and who passed away early Tuesday morning After his death the Jontras came home" and left again Wednesday morning to attend the funeral at Sweetwater Leslie is a son of Frank Assembly and played for the meeting All report a very nice time and a splendid program Cart Reports Good Time Carl Hendren who attended the reunion of Co 375th Infantry Division of World War I held at Seiling reports 44 members of the Company present and 6 states represented He stated that he met one of his former buddies at this meeting Mr of Amarillo whom he had not seen since he got out of the service in 1929 Mr Hendren always makes it a point to be present at these events if possible and says he thoroughly enjoys them The reunion and meeting of these former soldiers started in 1929 with the first meeting being held at Taloga Injured In Car Wreck Mr and Mrs Perry Lutz Arnett enroute home from a visit in Wyoming last week were injured in a car wreck near Wheatland Wyo and both were hospitalized in that city Their daughters Mrs Franklin Miles of Gage and Mrs Eugene Wilson of Arnett who went to Wheatland as soon as they received the news returned home Sunday morning and report their parents getting along very well They hope to be able to come home the last of the week or the first of next Cheerful Chatter Club Club met Oct 13 in the home of Gladys Reinin ger Three members Journeyed to Fort Supply on Monday evening October 18 where he spoke to the Fort Supply PTA on school legislation The school program being presented to the next legislature has been carefully prepared Armbrecht Dead Funeral for Sam Armbrecht who died at his home early Sunday morning was Tuesday afternoon and burial was in Shattuck cemetery Death is reported to be due to a heart attack Mr Armbrecht brother of Henry of Gage and John of Woodward and unde of Fred Laubhan of Gage had lived in 'and near Shattuck for many years DISPLAY FLAGS ON UNITED STATES DAY Mayor Price Rankin calls attention to friends here The yearly check from Viola Infield of Duncan reached our desk recently and she has our thanks for same SAM BAXTER RESIDENCE SOLD Mr and Mrs Joe Elam of Mooreland have purchased the Sam Baxter property in the southwest part of Gage and will move into same in the near future This was formerly the Seeliger home which Sam bought from them several years ago The deal was closed Monday Mr Elam is employed by the Santa Fe and we are glad to welcome him and his wife to our city Youth Fellowship The Ellis County Sub-district of the Methodist Youth Fellowship met at Arnett church Monday evening Oct 11 Recreation refreshments and worship service were provided by the Arnett youth Attendance by churches was: Gage 26 Arnett 19 Fargo 16 Shattuck 16 and Catesby 8 Next inhering Monday November 11 at Catesby Tim Larason reporter Mr and Mrs John Seeliger of Enid were here Monday attending to business and visiting with many friends in their former home town While here Mrs Seeliger made a pleasant call at the Record office and renewed her subscription for another year Mrs McCollough of Level-land Texas is here for two weeks visit with her parents Mr and Mrs Dick Webb while her husband is on a trip to Colorado Linder and Paul Nelson made a business trip to Oklahoma City Monday Mrs Gracey returned Saturday from two weeks visit in Texas and Kansas.
