standstill in every department of the game the University of Tennessee eleven was deprived of a well-earned and deserved tie today through failure to kick a goal after touchdown Evenly matched in speed and weight the two elevens fought fiercely and desperately through the sixty minutes of play and he Commodores felt themselves lucky to be able to claim -a 7 to 6 victory when the linni whistle sounded Showing a versatile attack and employing with much success the Istmotue Minnesota shift the VoMnteers started the game with a rush and during the first period had the ball in Vanderbilt's territory a greater part of the time "Red" Rainey the little halfback- was the mainstay of the Tetmessee attack and the manner in which he skirted the Vanderbilt ends as soon as the ball was put in play threw consternation Into the Vanderbilt camp Getting the ball on Vanderbilt's 45-yard line on a punt Tennessee whirled it down the field in a series of line plunges and --dashes around the end depending on the elusive run when a gain was badly needed and the spectators were numb with surprise when the fiery headed youth was given the ball on Vandy's 14-yard line and skirting the opposing right end for a touchdown before the quarter was up With the speed of a deer he eluded all Vanderbilt tacklers with the exception of the Midget Beonseh who made a dive at him only to be shaken off as a eat would shake a rat The touchdown was made at the extreme eastern corner of the field and Carroll kicked out to Man who heeled the ball easily gowevere Carroll's kick went wide of the cross bars and consequently loon the game Vanderbilt's touchdown in the second quarter can be attributed directly to Right-guard Bayer whose action in slugging Martin Chester caused Ten nessee to be penalized half the distance to the goal shortly after the quarter opened a distance of 33 yards which put the ball on Tennessee's 35-yard line Bayer was sent from the game by Umpire Bradley Walker Boensch quick to grasp the opportulaity caught the opposing defense Uri awares by making a forward past on the first down He hurled the ball secnrately into the outstretched arms of Capt Brown who whirled and rushed 10 yards across the goal line shaking off several tacklers Boensch kicked out to Sikes who heeled the ball anti 11oensch then cleaved the goal posts with a pretty goal Throughout the re- Times BIRMINGHAM Ala Nov staged a great come-back against Alabama this afternoon and won one of apparently got a down and three plays- carried the ball to within a few inches of the goal line The referee gave the ball to Alabama after a long argument and for no apparent reason except that he probably miscounted the downs It was a touchdown wrested right out of Sewanee's grasp The game was full of spectacular runs and tackling Tolley was a scintillator for Sewanee the little quarter dashing through the open field and sneaking through the lines for many gains Palmer's occasional sprints and his fierce tackling were another feature For Alabama Vandergraafe did some superb sprinting and ethers of the Alabamians were often shining in the fray Sewanee scored soon after the start of the game on a beautiful drop kick by Hammond from the 35-yard line against the wind Alabama received and failed to gain The pass for the kick was fumbled and Sewanee recovered on the 10- yard line A 15-yard penalty set the Tigers back and forced Hammond to drop the goal Moore again kicked off and Alabama was forced to punt After carrying the ball many yards Sewanee lost it on Ward's fumble Alabama plugged for a first down Sewanee held and Long finally attempted a place kick The kick was short but Tolley fumbled it on the 10-yard line and Alabama recovered Sewanee held and when Alabama attempted a forward pass Hammond intercepted it on the 1-yard line Parker punted from behind the line and on an Alabama fumble Sewanee recovered on her own 20-yard line Tolley tried an onside kick for 25 yards Hagin a forward pass hit the ground and Hampton ripped off a long 45 yard boot The visitors continued their plunging tactics and three plays netted 10 yards Then came the fatal play Lyons smashed outside tackle for 10 yards He fumbled as he reached the side line 'Spencer recovered it and brought it back inside running up-field some 20 yards Broaton ruled that Coach O'Brien tried to trip him and Referee Rike carried the ball back to where Spencer brought it in but the penalty at the coach's expense entailed half the distance to the goal line Things were easy then Hampton bucked for 5 yards Dexheimer circled for 13 A 5 yard penalty at the goal line set the locals back but Woodworth made it up with a line sneak and Spencer circled for a touchdown Detheimer kicked goal Chattanooga 13 Central 12 Kentucky received and again began to ram Coleman down-field but the star fumbled after he had bucked the ball steadily for 30 yards The speedy Woodworth grabbed the oval and brought it back 15 yards A few plays Inter Woodworth got loose through center for 35 yards putting the ball on the 5-yard line Again the locals were penalised at the goal line but Dexheimer made it up with an end run and then bucked 'er over Dex kicked goal Chattanaoga 20 Central of Kentucky 12 The first half ended with this play Fumbles which had played a prominent part in the downfall of Central in the first half started them toward a touchdown in the second Cotton's kickoff was short The Moccasins went down the field steadily Hampton and Woodworth going through the line and outside tackle and Dex and Spencer around ends Hampton finally was forced to punt and his offering rolled across the line for a touchback Orr and Page got busy here and the visitors couldn't gain Woodworth made a dashing 15-yard return of Cotton's punt Hampton bucked for 5 yards Woody sneaked for 10 yards one of the little quarterback's magnificent plays The play put the ball on Kentucky's 8-yard line Hampton was called outside right tackle but fumbled as he went over the line Pedgen fell on the ball for a touchback Quickly turned the tide of battle Central scrimmaged on the 20-yard line failed to gain and Cotton punted 40 yards Woodworth fumbled and Thompson fell on the ball An off-side penalty at Chattanooga's expense saved the ball for Central when Orr and Page spilled three plays Thompson made 10 yards in three tries Coleman rammed for 6 -ards Roman for 2 and Lyons barely made it first down on Chattanooga's 8-yard line Two smashes by Coleman brought a touchdown Once again Cotton missed goal Chattanooga 20 Kentucky 18 Kentucky scented victory about this time and after short gains produced one firs down held Chattanooga for downs The visitors were busy at once a 13-yard end run by Lyons with Coleman's line crashes carrying the ball down the field but a fumble lost it Hampton failed to gain but on Ai double pass play Dexheimer got around right end for 40 yards and Spencer immediately ripped off 25 yards more around the other end Coleman was knocked out as he tackled Spencer and Ramsey took his place Chattanooga drew another off-side penally at the goal line but Spencer circled and Vandergraafe tore off some PrettY end runs but Sewanee's defense finally stiffened and Tolley intercepted a forward pass on his own 7-yard line as the Palmer tackle- double pass end run enabled Hammond to make a 30-yard run to Alabama's 20- yard line Three plays put it on the 10- yard line three more to the 1-2-yard line where the referee's ruling gave it to Alabama just before the first half ended Alabama kicked off in the second half and after several spectacular runs an off-side penalty forced Tolley to kick to Alabama's 20-yard line Sewanee caught two more penalties but Alabama was again forced to kick and again the Tigers ewept up the field The third period ended with the ball in Sewanee's possession on Alabama's 15-yard line Alabama held but a perfect forward pass from Conn Nov Showing a complete reversal of form over last Saturday Yale easily defeated Brown on Yale field this afternoon 17 to The score however fails to indicate the superiority of the blue eleven Twice Yale missed place kicks by slight margins and twree was within striking distance of a touchdown but on each occasion lost the ball on an incompleted forward pass It was not until near the close of the game that Brown had a chance to score Yale had sent in many substitutes and her opponents by a long forward pass brought the ball within striking distance Capt Henry tried a field- goal but the ball went wide Left Halfback Guernsey of Yale made a brilliant attempt at a field goal from the 42-yard line but failed Yale displayed the best form so far this year although the offense was somewhat lacking in polish Wilson at quarterback ran the team well and contributed a sensational 45 yard run Dunn played a star game at fullback for Yale A steady rain fell throughout the game but Yale did not Athletic club defeated Baylor-flouts school team of Chattanooga today by the narrowest margin possible In a football single safety The score was made when Lamb after Intercepting a forward pass of the field throughout CO 21 7th St Two Defense-less Teams Trample TO THREE FOR VISITORS Brelks in Decisions Against Kentuckians Who Grow Game Played on Cold Day Braving weather conditions of the worst variety with a cold rain falling through part of the game and inches of mud underfoot Chattanooga and Central of Kentucky wrangled yesterday to a 27-18 verdict in favor of the locals While the ball was slippery and fumbles had much to-do with the result thus givink the game a black eye artistically the contest was bitterly fought as the score indicates The two teams were evenly matched and neither could put up much of a defense against the other The Kentucky line offered strenuous opposition and outplayed the Chattanooga forwards much of the time' On the other hand the Chattanooga line while outcharged was continually break-mg through The entire local quintet was spilling plays repeatedly and there was not one of the five who did not make many tackles behind the line On the other hand the Central forwards opened many holes for their backfield to go through The game see-sawed with amusing frequency and the way the ball was tranaported up and down the field was exceedingly entertaining The Chatta- nocera eleven took the ball at the start and frolicked across the field for a touchdown with regular Birmingham college ease "Another 100 to 0 affair" was the verdict in the stands Presto! The visitors began to crash through for Immense gains going to the secondary defense every time One touchdown two touchdowns they made without hardly losing the the Moccasin line look like a bunch of dubs and throwing the bulk of the work on the backfield on defense Then came a disastrous break from the for the Kentuckians Following their second touchdowns the li-entucklians were ploughing again Lyons dashed along the side line for a 10-yard gain He fumbled apparently after going out of bounds and making the ball dead Spencer got the ball out of bounds brought it in and ran 20 yards up field The referee ruled that the ball was Chattanooga's where Spencer got it but the head linesman penal- 1 ized the Central coach for attempting to trip Spencer as he ran up field close to the side line The ruling cost heavily as Chattanooga immediately smashed to a touchdown The Central team seemed to lose their punch just here and Chattanooga made another touchdown following a disastrous Central fumble The first half ended with a score of 20 to 12 Dex kicking two goals There was much unpleasantness over the work of the officials and Head Linesman Broxton became involved in an altercation with the Central line man at one juncture Kind friends separated the combatants In the third period Chattanooga shot up to Central's goal line with great ease but Hampton fumbled after crossing the line and a Centralman recovered Then Woodworth fumbled a long punt a visitor got the ball and another Kentucky march to the goal line ensued making the score 20-1S The visitors again fumbled at a critical pass while threatening a score and the Moccasins romped for their fourth touchdown The only way for either team to lose the ball thronghout the game seemed to be to fumble it The Central team had much the snperior driving power though their backfield was not nearly so fast as Chattanooga's Coleman a husky fullback plunged through for dozens of yards and was always hard to stop Other big noises were Thompson a hefty halfback and Roman a huge tackle The remainder of the team shone only at intervals Contrary to expectations Coach O'Brien did not spring any trick plays? or forward passes One double pass play with the tackle around behind good interference mystified the Chattanoogans and netted many yards while a split buck also worked with consistency For Chattanooga Hampton's mauling ability and fierce defensive play in backing up the line featured as usual while the other three backs Woodworth Spencer and Dexheimer showed their usual high speed Each of the three was tip and away for sprints ranging from 10 to 30 yards In the line Endridge played his first game nt guard and did well Orr continued his improvement though his opponent was a hard man to hold In fact the entire line played well in pots On the ends Suthertnad and Woodworth had trouble splitting the visitors' loose intereference which seemed more effective than a close interference would have been Chattanooga's Brisk Start Soon Nipped by Visitors The game started like it would be a pipe for the home lads The visitors failed to gam after the kick-off and Cotton punted Forthwith Spencer circled for 9 yards Hampton made it first downs the smooth Woodworth sneaked through the line and got loose for 30 yards after which Hampton was rammed for a touchdown on five successive plays Dez missed goal Chattanooga 6 Central Then came the transformation Dex kicked off and the Kentuckians brought the ball up-field in long bucks and dashes Lyons started it with a 30 yard run around end Coleman Roman Thompson and Lyons with the two first named making the longer gains came up-field 6 8 10 and 12 yards at a clip and Lyons made the touchdown over right tackle after the Moccasins held on two plays right on their goal line Cotton missed goal Chattanooga 6 Central 6 Chattanooga could not gain after the kick-off and Hampton's punt was short Coleman plunged for 8 yards Roman for 10 as the first period ended In the second period though brilliant defensive plays were made by Page and Spencer the visitors quite easily plugged along Coleman doing most of the work Lyons and Roman gaining consistently Roman finally bucked for the touchdown Cotton again missed goal Central 12 Chattanooga 6 Moccasins Rally After Ruling in Their Favor Cotton's kick-off was short to Orr Spencer and Hampton made it a first
