of a full bred Morgan mare who was got by the celebrated horse Flying Dragon As this breed of horses have never before been introduced into this place and as some persons may not be acquainted with the Cleveland Bay so called in England it may be proper to say something of them A stallion of this stock was imp rted some years ago by Mr Robe Patterson of Marylaud and Tollett esq an eminent breeder and farmer in Staffordshire England says in a letter to "The breed of the Cleveland Bay of which your colt is of the pure blood was the native sort of the improved English horse before the introduction of the Arabians and Barbs Yorkshire has always been celebrated for its horses and Cleveland is thje Northern district of that county By crossing these mares with race horses the Yorkshire breeders have supplied for many years the metropolis with high priced coach horses and the sportman with hunters tocarry high weights The cross with the blood horse is admirable as it combines strength and power with fleetness I have a pair of coach horses of my own breeding of this stock for which I would no take 300 American Farmpr vol 2 The original Morgan horse was raised by Justen Morgan in Vermont in the year the pedigree in full to be found in the Albany Cultivator for 1846 to 1847 This breed of horses (the Morgan) has long been celebrated in this country for their great
