Officers Jack Cross and Lawrence Powers gave pursuit. The thief stopped the vehicle, jumped out and ran away. Powers fired three shots in the air but they didn't deter the thief, who escaped in the darkness.

423-0640 Evenings 475 1763 12-l-tf SANTA CRUZ FLORISTS 205 Locust St. 423-0734 12-l-tf California Highway patrol officer at the Santa Cruz office, died Friday morning of an apparent heart attack at his home in Hollister. He was 57. At the time of his death he was a lieutenant with the CHP and was a candidate for judge of the San Juan Beautista judicial dis trict in the November election. A Santa Cruz High school graduate, Calhoun joined the CHP In 1930.

He was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant in 1952 when he was a member of the Santa Cruz CHP unit. He then was transferred to head the Inyo conty patrol unit at Independence. He became head of the Hollister division in 1954. He is no relation to Capt. Hartley Calhoun, present head of the Santa Cruz unit.

He was a past commander of the Santa Cruz American Legion post, a member of the California State Highway Patrol association, a member of San Benito Lodge 211 a member of Santa Cruz Forty and Eight and a for mer member of the Santa Cruz 20-30 club. He served with a military Intelligence unit during World War II. Funeral services are being arranged at the Black-Cooper-Otteson Funeral Parlors in Hollister. He is survived by his wife, the former Isabell May Eaton of San ta Cruz; two sisters, Mrs. Velma Arrington of Mara Loma and Mrs Ireta Pattison of Seattle, and a brother, Homer Calhoun of Washington, D.

C. Calhoun attended a meeting of the San Benito County Peace Officers association Thursday evening, and friends said he appeared to be in good health. He was to be 58 Saturday. Ann Runyon Dies; Services Tuesday Ann Loretta Runyon, 91, a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 19 years, died last Monday in a local hospital after a long illness. A native of New York, Mrs.

Runyon made her home here at 1311 Bay street. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic church. She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Runyon. Funeral services will be at 8:40 a.m.

Tuesday from The Ferguson Mortuary chapel, thence to Holy Cross' church where a requiem mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross cemetery. The rosary will be recited in the mortuary chapel at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow. James D.

Lane Services Pending James Donovan Lane, 71, a resident of Santa Cruz for the past six years, died Friday in a local hospital. A retired farmer, Mr. Lane was a native of South Dakota. He made his home here at 1165 Chan ticleer avenue. He is survived by his i Jeanette; a daughter, Evelyn King of Redding; three sons, James Lane of Neuberry Park, Lloyd Lane of Redding and Jack D.

Owens was general factories manager of the Pacific Coast region before he was transferred to the company's general offices in Toledo in 1958 as vice president in charge of production for the forest products division. Mary Walbridge Dies In Palo Alto Mary R. Walbridge, 64, a resident of Santa Cruz since 1950, died Thursday in a Palo Alto hospital after a brief illness. A native of Ohio, Mrs. walbridge first came to Santa Cruz in 1903, and later moved to Los Gatos and then to San Francisco.

She resides here at 1010 Live 'Oak avenue. She is survived by a daughter, Betty Walbridge of San Francisco; a son, John Walbridge of Santa Cruz; a brother, Elijah S. Whit-aker of Belmont, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in White's chapel, with the Rev.
