night there were threetening clouds but these had passed away this morning and the sun shone warm anct bright There were hundreds of strangers in the city and the streets were crowded as early as 10 o'clock At the aroaory of the First Virginia Regiment the soldiers were hurrying to and fro preparing for the parade The procession which was composed entirely of military formed promptly on Broad street and pro- ceeded to the Exchange lIotelwhere the distinguished gentlemen were In waiting There were only two carriages in the proceesion One was occupied by Goy McKinney and Goveelect O'Ferrall and the other by Lieut-Gov Tyler and Lieut-Gov Kent The procession was a most oreditable one All branches of the military service were well repreeented The Nor folk and Portsmouth contingent made an excellent shoeing The line of merch was up Mein to Fifth to Franklin to Toushee to Graee and thence to the Capitol All along the route the sidewalks 'were densely packed Col O'Ferrall rode with uncovered head and was constputly bowing his acknowledgements to the enthusiastic cheers of the people Before 11 o'clock a large crowd had collected at the Capitol The lobby and galleries were packed and strangers pressed into the Senate Chamber and hall of the jTone of Delegates and carried on pretty much as they pleased The Senate and House met at 1130 o'clock transacted routine business passed a resolution complimentary Of Goy McKeuney and appointed a committee to invite the Gorernor-elect and Lieutenant Governor-elect to take the oath of on the Southern portico of the Capitol This
